Harris Campaign Tries to Distance Itself from Heavily Edited ’60 Minutes’ Interview

 October 10, 2024

Kamala Harris did a real news interview this week, but once again, there was controversy.

It would appear that "60 Minutes" heavily edited the interview to make Harris look better, but now Harris is trying to distance herself from the edits.

Talking Points…
- Avoiding the media
- Lots of edits
- Analysis

Avoiding the Media

If my math is correct, today is day 82 since Harris was gifted the nomination, yet she has yet to hold another press conference. She had been totally avoiding the media, but over the two weeks, she has done a bit of a media blitz with friendly outlets. This has mostly consisted of late-night TV shows like "The View," where they gush over her, as well as Howard Stern and the "Call Her Daddy" podcast.

It is understandable why Harris has been avoiding the media; every time she does an interview, including these softball interviews, she seems to take a hit in the polls. When she first entered the race, she was given a considerable cushion against Trump both nationally and in battleground polling. However, since that first day, she has been slowly going backward, with a little bit more of a fall every time her face is on TV.

In terms of national averages, Harris still holds a 2.6% lead over Trump nationally. In Arizona, Trump is now up 1.3%. In Georgia, trump is up 0.7%. In Nevada, Harris has an edge of 1.0%. Harris is holding a 1.0% lead in Michigan. Trump has a 0.9% lead in North Carolina. Harris has a 0.8% lead in Pennsylvania. In Wisconsin, Harris is now holding a 0.7% lead, having lost considerable support over the most recent run of polling.

Lots of Edits to Interview

Harris' backers wanted her to get out more, but that was a mistake. Harris' interviews have all bombed, either because she opened her mouth or because the interviewer was clearly biased. Her only real interview was on "60 Minutes," which was a complete and utter disaster.

Throughout the week, snippets of the interview had been released, with one of the most damning segments being Harris trying to explain the relationship between Israel and the United States. Harris' first answer was released during "Face the Nation," and it was a rather unintelligible word salad of considerable length. Yet, when the interview aired on a special edition of "60 Minutes" on Monday night, the answer was far more focused and shorter.

Point being, the interview had clearly been heavily edited to make Harris look better, and it was quickly noticed, with her credits exploding on social media over the editing of the interview. This, of course, drew accusations of the campaign demanding that the network tighten up the interview before airing it. Now, there have been considerable calls to air the entire uncut interview as had been requested when Trump did his interview. The Harris campaign responded to the editing complaints, stating:

"We do not control CBS's production decisions and refer questions to CBS."

The two different versions of her answer are shown in the video below, clearly edited for Harris' benefit…

The Trump campaign immediately attacked, stating:

"On Sunday, '60 Minutes' teased Kamala's highly-anticipated sit-down interview with one of her worst word salads to date, which received significant criticism on social media. During the full interview on Monday evening, the word salad was deceptively edited to lessen Kamala's idiotic response.

"Why did '60 Minutes' choose not to air Kamala's full word salad, and what else did they choose not to air? The American people deserve the full, unedited transcript from Kamala's sit-down interview. We call upon '60 Minutes' and CBS to release it. What do they, and Kamala, have to hide?"

Analysis

The bias by the mainstream media favoring Harris is undeniable in this presidential race. During all of these interviews, she has not once been asked about the abuse allegations made against her husband. She has rarely been challenged on how she can get her economic plan passed in Congress. And now her word salads are being trimmed down to make her look more professional. We are being gaslighted to the Nth degree, all so they can prevent Donald Trump from winning this election. They make him look as bad as possible, and they are trying to turn Harris into the next Margaret Thatcher. It is a complete and utter disgrace.
