Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley has recently brought to light significant whistleblower documents.
According to Breitbart, the revelations point to a partisan FBI agent's instrumental role in the inception of a high-profile case against former President Donald Trump, led by special counsel Jack Smith.
During a Senate Judiciary confirmation hearing for Trump's FBI director nominee, Kash Patel, Grassley made known the existence of whistleblower allegations. These originate from internal FBI emails that accuse FBI Assistant Special Agent in Charge Timothy Thibault of improperly kickstarting the investigation dubbed "Arctic Frost".
Correspondence from a Department of Justice (DOJ) whistleblower highlighted that Timothy Thibault was allegedly pivotal without sufficient evidential backing. On February 14, 2022, Thibault drafted an email suggesting the inclusion of Trump in the investigation.
It is claimed he did this despite not being authorized to open criminal investigations. Thibault and his subordinate, Michelle Ball, officially added Trump as a criminal subject on February 25.
By April 11, Thibault had secured approval for the investigation, which gained the FBI Deputy Director's endorsement two days later. Subsequently, Timothy Thibault informed DOJ official John Crabb about the movement in the case. The DOJ and FBI higher-ups, such as Attorney General Merrick Garland and FBI Director Christopher Wray, were involved in reviewing and approving its escalation to a grand jury probe.
Allegations against Thibault extend to his being fired for violations of the Hatch Act, which prohibits partisan political activity by federal employees in roles that could influence elections. Thibault’s actions are also under scrutiny in other investigations tied to Trump and Hunter Biden, marking a concern over impartiality in the FBI.
The disclosures raise questions about the integrity of federal investigations and the extent of partisan influence. During the confirmation hearing, Grassley queried the decision-making process behind adding Trump back into the spotlight for prosecution.
Timothy Thibault assured in an email to his team:
"I had a discussion with the case team, and we believe there to be predication to include former President of the United States Donald J. Trump as a predicated subject. Perfect."
This case opened as "Arctic Frost", escalates to a thorough investigative effort with multiple high-level reviews and edits. Notable figures such as Richard Pilger of the DOJ were also involved in moving the investigation forward to a serious judicial examination level.
The subsequent approval and steps were acknowledged by DOJ official John Crabb, who noted: "Thanks a lot. Let’s talk next week."
