Graham Highlights Failures in US Foreign Policy, Urges Stronger Action on Iran

 September 1, 2024

Amidst recent international tensions, Senator Lindsey Graham has openly criticized the current U.S. administration's approach towards international relations, particularly in the Middle East.

In light of the tragic killing of six hostages in Israel, Senator Graham is advocating for more robust action against Iran, Fox News reported.

Senator Graham, in an interview on ABC’s “This Week,” condemned Vice President Kamala Harris's foreign policy decisions, especially concerning her handling of Middle Eastern affairs. According to Graham, Harris’s actions are sending detrimental signals to terrorists in the Middle East.

Senator Graham Calls for Heightened U.S.-Israel Coordination

In the wake of the brutal killing of Israeli-American Hersh Goldberg-Polin and five others, Graham emphasized the need for heightened security measures. These individuals were tragically found in a tunnel in Rafah, close to a prior hostage rescue locale, following their capture from a music festival in southern Israel on October 7. Graham attributes the failure to prevent such tragedies to the inadequate actions taken by the U.S. and its allies in combating terrorist organizations backed by Iran.

Expressing frustration over the dual threats of international terrorism and domestic security lapses, Graham linked these issues to the broader canvas of Harris's foreign policy approach. The Vice President boycotted a speech by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and, as per Graham, has failed to respond adequately to other international crises.

Graham's Stark Critique of Vice President Harris

"She's been a senator, she's attorney general, she's now vice president ... On foreign policy, she's been a wrecking ball."

Inspiring little confidence in international circles, Harris’s reluctance to enforce stricter measures against nations supporting terrorism has, according to Graham, only emboldened America’s adversaries. He described the administration's handling of international affairs as "the most incompetent" he'd seen in domains crucial to U.S. security and prosperity.

Continuing his rebuke, Graham accused Hamas of indifference towards the well-being of both the hostages and Palestinian civilians. He sternly criticized Iran’s role in fostering global discord and supporting terrorist factions like Hamas.

Future Steps Suggested by Senator Graham

Sen. Lindsey Graham urged the Biden administration and Israel to reassess their strategy towards Iran, reflecting on the latter’s significant influence over Hamas. He suggested aggressive measures such as targeting Iranian infrastructure to compel compliance and cooperation.

Following an audacious rescue attempt by Israeli forces that ended in finding the hostages murdered, Graham’s call for action has grown vehement. He believes a more assertive stance on the world stage is crucial in curbing the influence and operational capabilities of terrorist groups supported by Iran. Graham's statements came amid a broader context of political and military proceedings, including former President Trump's recent involvement in a wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery, which also drew public attention.

Highlighting the gravity of the situation, Graham provided a detailed exposition of why he believes the administration needs a reshuffle in its foreign policy priorities. These issues, according to him, are critical not just for the U.S. but for the stability of the entire Middle East.

Throughout the interview, Graham passionately advocated for the safety of not only U.S. citizens but also allies abroad, stressing the importance of a foreign policy that actively counters rather than passively observes threats. His stark examination spotlights the administration’s perceived gaps in an otherwise complex geopolitical environment.

As the global community watches closely, the effectiveness of the U.S. stance on foreign policy under the Biden administration, as critiqued by Graham, remains a pivotal aspect of international relations discourse.
