According to the Daily Caller, The Democratic Governor signed legislation allocating $50 million for legal assistance primarily for immigrants and to challenge policies of the Trump administration.
California lawmakers pushed Senate Bill X1 2 through, initiating it on January 9 to counter the Trump administration's actions and defend immigrants who might face deportation. The bill clearly states that it will not use its funds to aid noncitizens convicted of serious violent felonies.
