GOP Pounces on John Kerry for Jet Travel to COP28

 December 1, 2023

As you all know, John Kerry is Joe Biden's climate envoy, which the GOP finds loaded with hypocrisy.

The fact that Kerry, along with hundreds of other "experts," are all jetting into Dubai for the latest conference has once again given the GOP ammunition to use against the Biden administration.

COP28

COP28 has officially kicked off, with the world's experts meet to discuss current uses and ideas.

When COP21 was held, world representatives agreed that global warming needed to be reduced by 1.5 degrees Celsius and drastic emission reductions needed to avert disaster.

The current conference is being held in Dubai, with more than 70,000 attendees expected, many of them traveling by private jet to the conference.

The Hypocrisy of John Kerry and the Biden Administration

When you are trying to sell the country on a green energy initiative, it is tough to take it seriously when your leading czar travels the world by private jet or when his wife owns a private jet leasing company, as is the case with John Kerry.

Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA) was among the first to call out Kerry and the administration over the hypocrisy of this conference, which probably produces more emissions than most American cities do in an entire year.

Ernst stated:

"Once again, the Biden administration exposes the hypocrisy of their own radical green fantasy. Joe Biden's Climate Czar is jetting off again emitting the greenhouse gases he warns against, wasting taxpayer dollars, and undermining U.S. strength on the world stage. While the Biden administration's weakness has caused chaos across the globe, President Biden doubles down on combating climate change instead of terrorism.

"Just another area where he allows China, the world's largest polluter, to eat our lunch in lip service to the radical green wing of his own party. Make no mistake, virtue signaling is no virtue, and Americans have had enough of an administration with their head in the clouds. It's time for Biden bureaucrats to face the facts, as terrorists threaten the safety and security of Americans, fossil fuels are not the enemy."

For years, Republicans have been trying to get more information on the carbon footprint of this conference, but the State Department has consistently pushed back, saying that it had not created a mechanism to track this information.

Yet, in December 2021, Biden signed an executive order, which, in part, required the tracking of carbon emissions by federal agencies related to travel.

The order was nothing more than a headline grabber, as you can see since the State Department somehow cannot figure out how to track how much of a footprint John Kerry jetting around the world is creating, but they can tell us how harmful a gas stove is.

Analysis

First and foremost, this conference comes off as nothing more than a luxury trip for talking heads.

This year, it is in Dubai, and last year, it was held at the Egyptian resort town of Sharm El-Sheikh, which is typical of the locations chosen for this conference.

It is talking heads spending government money on a lavish vacation to create initiatives that sound great on paper but are rarely accomplished in real life.

I have stated many times that in terms of addressing the use of fossil fuels, unless China and India are on board, this is all fantasy, and China and India do not show any signs of slowing down in terms of fossil fuel usage.

Secondly, due to the obvious footprint of this conference, why is it not being held virtually, which is the point of contention of most critics?

It is not necessarily the idea of the environment that most people push back on; it is the fact that the biggest violators are the talking heads creating all these rules.

As an example, the average passenger car produces about 4.6 metric tons of carbon dioxide per year. During John Kerry's first 18 months as Biden's climate envoy, John Kerry's private jet travel produced 325 metric tons of carbon dioxide, which is the equivalent of more than 70 years of travel by a passenger vehicle.

The average person sees the plush travel and accommodations these people are enjoying and wonders why they cannot have a gasoline-powered car or have to stop using a gas stove.

If politicians in every nation want their citizens to take this issue more seriously, they need to stop the hypocritical behavior.
