Johnny Wactor was killed early on May 25 in downtown Los Angeles after trying to prevent the theft of a car part.
Days after "General Hospital" star Johnny Wactor was fatally shot, a co-worker who was with him during his final moments shared harrowing details about the events leading to his death.
Despite completing his bartending shift at Level 8, Wactor’s night took a fatal turn when he and coworker Anita Joy spotted three suspects tampering with his vehicle. When he confronted them to assert ownership, one of the men shot him, leading to his untimely demise, Fox News reported.
Anita Joy and nearby security guard Bryan were quick to respond, providing first aid and calling emergency services, yet Wactor succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital.
The Los Angeles Medical Examiner's Office confirmed that Johnny Wactor died from a gunshot wound to the chest and officially ruled his death a homicide.
The LAPD reacted by releasing a description of the suspects on May 28, noting their escape in a dark-colored sedan after the shooting. They were described as clad in dark clothing, making the ongoing investigation challenging.
Anita Joy, deeply affected by the event, was moved to voice her emotions and Wactor’s virtues following the tragic incident. Anita expressed her profound grief, recollecting with deep emotion the qualities that defined Wactor's presence in her life:
I was with Johnny in his last moments and I’m here to be his voice after such unimaginable events. He was killed senselessly by a coward who reacted without care of the gorgeous life he was taking. He treated everyone with love, respect, compassion, and he really ‘saw’ you. His energy was magnetic and pulled you in so effortlessly – you were safe with him.
Anita Joy highlighted the detailed crime scenario, stating they initially thought Wactor’s car was being towed, only to realize the severity when the confrontation escalated.
Wactor's overall demeanor during the encounter was composed: "He kept his cool as he always did, simply stating that it was his car and for them to leave," Anita recalled. Unfortunately, his non-aggressive approach was met with violence.
Anita Joy passionately shared the personal impact Wactor left on everyone he encountered. His engaging nature and inherent charm made him beloved on-screen and off. She fondly remembered his affectionate nickname for her, "Anita Bonita," hoping never to forget the sound of his voice.
Anita further remarked on the impact of his untimely departure: "I’m so grateful to have been a part of his world and him, mine. My heart is shattered with his loss but I believe I have gained the best guardian Angel out there. I love you Johnny Wacky."
