Former White House Physician Urges Biden to Undergo Drug Test Before Debate With Trump

 June 24, 2024

Rep. Ronny Jackson, a Republican from Texas and a former White House physician, has publicly demanded that President Joe Biden submits to a drug test before his upcoming debate with former President Donald Trump.

Fox News reported that Rep. Jackson has cited concerns about Biden's cognitive capabilities and performance under pressure as reasons for the test request, raising significant attention as the debate approaches.

Rep. Jackson, who previously served as the White House doctor under President Obama and President Trump, addressed his demand in a letter to Biden and his physician, Dr. Kevin O’Connor.

Jackson insists on testing both before and immediately after the CNN-hosted presidential debate. His request specifically focused on testing for performance-enhancing substances that he claims might alter debate performance.

Jackson's concerns aren’t just about the upcoming debate; they relate to broader anxieties about President Biden's overall cognitive health. Over one hundred members of Congress have previously urged Biden to submit to a cognitive test—a request that has, as of yet, been unfulfilled. Jackson argues that the high-pressure environment of a debate is a critical showcase of a candidate’s capacity to lead effectively.

Controversy and Criticism Stirred by Cognitive Concerns

Jackson has pointed to previous instances where, according to him, Biden exhibited behaviors such as excessive sweating and agitated, unusual gestures during public appearances as indicators of potential drug use.

Despite such claims, they are met with significant skepticism and have been heavily criticized by Biden's supporters.

Ronny Jackson said:

American citizens must have absolute confidence in their President's ability to perform his duties as Head of State and Commander in Chief, and the debate performance absolutely should be indicative of an individual's ability to perform these critical duties free of any performance-enhancing drugs or mood-altering medications.

Adding to the tension, the Biden Administration’s staunch dismissal of the allegations. White House spokesman Andrew Bates compared Jackson to a dubious character known for questionable medical practices from the popular television show The Simpsons. This reflects the administration's broader stance on criticisms that it claims are rooted more in politics than in fact.

Polling Data Reflect Voter Concerns About Age and Effectiveness

Public sentiment adds another layer to this unfolding story. Recent polls, including one from The New York Times/Siena College, highlight widespread voter concern about President Biden's age and his effectiveness while in office. These concerns correlate with the focal points of Jackson's arguments against Biden's cognitive readiness.

Jackson was one of the first House Republicans to endorse Trump’s 2024 campaign, which may color perceptions of his motivations. During his tenure in the White House, he notably performed a cognitive test on Trump, who passed with a perfect score—a fact Trump has often touted.

Furthermore, Jackson’s office remarked on the apparent bias in requesting tests solely from Biden, given Trump’s own distinctive and consistent behavior throughout his presidency.

Despite the controversy, it's important to weigh these requests and accusations within the full context of available data and the broader political landscape. The upcoming CNN Presidential Debate, set for a Thursday night, is expected to draw significant national attention, potentially impacting public opinion further. As the nation watches closely, the integrity and capacity of its leaders remain under rigorous examination.
