Chris Kluwe, a retired NFL player turned high school coach, finds himself at the center of controversy following a protest that led to his arrest and subsequent dismissal.
According to the Western Journal, Kluwe was terminated from his coaching role at Edison High School after his arrest at a Huntington Beach City Council meeting where he demonstrated against a city-approved monument.
Kluwe, once a punter for the Minnesota Vikings, was arrested on February 18 in Huntington Beach, California. He staged a protest during a city council meeting, objecting to a plaque proposed for the local public library’s 50th anniversary celebration. The plaque, intended to showcase "Magical Alluring Galvanizing Adventurous" themes, was criticized by Kluwe for its explicit political messaging.
The protest began when Kluwe, a coach at Edison High School, expressed strong views against the plaque's connection to MAGA themes. During the meeting, he equated MAGA ideologies with Nazi symbolism, earning applause from those in attendance. Despite this support, Kluwe's actions led to an attempt at peaceful civil disobedience.

Meanwhile, the former NFL player justified his protest, highlighting concerns over community well-being. He voiced a perspective on the impact of associating MAGA with corrupt and anti-democratic values.
Kluwe remained convinced that the plaque contradicted the community's best interests. "I wanted people to see what MAGA actually means for a community and that this will not make our community better," he asserted.
Kluwe reflected on the outcome and noted that people had mixed responses to his protest. "I’m not going to scream and yell, but yeah, basically they said they had received messages both against me and in support of me," he commented, acknowledging the divide in public opinion.
