Former Aide Predicts Trump Debate Struggle Against Harris

 September 11, 2024

Former White House communications director Alyssa Farah Griffin has shared her insights on the upcoming debate between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris.

According to Raw Story, Griffin, now a co-host on "The View," predicts that Trump will "melt down" after about 15 minutes into the 90-minute debate scheduled for Tuesday.

Drawing from her experience working with Trump, Griffin offered strategic advice for Vice President Harris as she prepares to face the former president on the debate stage. The ex-aide emphasized the importance of Harris presenting herself as the best candidate for the job rather than focusing on criticizing her opponent.

Debate Approach and Voter Expectations

Griffin suggested that Harris should treat the debate like a job interview, focusing on her own qualities rather than her opponent's shortcomings. She pointed out that a recent New York Times poll indicates voters are eager to learn more about Harris, presenting an opportunity for the Vice President to connect with the electorate.

The former Trump aide advised Harris to clearly outline her policies, values, and personal qualities during the debate. This approach, Griffin argues, would allow Harris to effectively communicate her vision to the American people and potentially sway undecided voters.

However, Griffin also noted that Harris might face challenges related to her past policy positions. She highlighted the Vice President's previous support for "defund the police" initiatives and proposals to cut funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) as potential areas of contention.

Trump's Debate Performance Prediction

Griffin offered a unique perspective on Trump's expected debate performance, drawing from her firsthand experience working with the former president.

She stated:

Donald Trump, I tend to think, melts down after about 15 minutes. He can start strong, but he tends to diminish. It's a 90-minute debate. So, there is a chance he starts strong. I pay attention to the back half when he gets into handicaps and golf and all that.

This insight suggests that while Trump may begin the debate strongly, his performance could deteriorate as the event progresses. Griffin's comments imply that Harris might have an advantage in the latter portions of the debate if she can maintain her composure and focus.

Strategic Considerations for Harris

Griffin also pointed out what she perceives as a strategic misstep by Harris's campaign team. She criticized their failure to address the Vice President's policy reversals ahead of the debate, stating:

The biggest strategic error her campaign made is not having her in her own words answer on some of the policy reversals ahead of the debate.

This observation highlights the importance of preparation and proactive communication in high-stakes political events like presidential debates. Griffin suggests that by not addressing these issues beforehand, Harris may find herself on the defensive during the debate.

The upcoming debate between Trump and Harris is a crucial event in the 2024 presidential campaign. Griffin's predictions about Trump's debate performance and her advice for Harris provide valuable insights into the strategies and challenges both candidates may face.

As voters seek to learn more about the candidates, this debate offers an important opportunity for both Trump and Harris to present their visions for the country's future and address key policy issues.
