FBI Searches $3.5M Residence of Ex-Aide to NY Governor

 July 24, 2024

An FBI operation has targeted the luxurious Long Island residence of Linda Sun, a former deputy chief of staff to New York Gov. Kathy Hochul.

Federal agents carried out the raid on the Democrat operative's home early Tuesday morning, although it led to no immediate arrests or charges, as Breitbart reports.

The home raided by the FBI is valued at approximately $3.5 million and is situated in an upscale area of Long Island. Sun, 40, held a significant position under Hochul in the past. She has not been an active part of the governor’s office in roughly two years however.

Details Surrounding the Unannounced Search

The raid was executed under the authority of a warrant from the U.S. Attorney’s Office based in Brooklyn. Details regarding what prompted the warrant have not been disclosed.

The New York Times reported confirmation of the FBI's actions, noting that the agency's activities were part of "court-authorized law enforcement activity." However, specifics about the operation or any potential evidence removed were not forthcoming.

Sun and her husband, Chris Hu, 41, recently placed their property into a legal trust as of March this year. This action comes amid no notable public allegations or legal proceedings involving the couple.

Background of the Raided Ex-Staffer

Before being a target of the raid, Sun served in various administrative capacities, including as a "diversity officer" for New York State agencies. Her career also extended into political campaigning. She managed Austin Cheng's bid for New York’s third congressional district until his campaign ceased in December 2023.

Despite the concerning visuals of an FBI raid, no criminal accusations have been aimed at Sun or her spouse at this point.

Historically, Hochul has been known to stir controversy with her remarks regarding policies and societal issues. Among her notable quotes, she once mentioned in the context of a discussion on on education, "Young Black kids… don’t even know what the word computer is." She has also discussed migration law enforcement priorities, declaring her reluctance to "highlight" migrants involved in criminal activities.

Long-Term Impact and Community Reaction

The community and political observers await further developments, as the raid poses questions about Sun's activities during and after her tenure with the governor's team. The lack of charges as of yet raises scrutiny of the U.S. Attorney's motivations and future actions.

Neighborhood responses were mixed, with some expressing surprise at the sudden law enforcement action in their typically quiet community, while others took a more reserved approach, waiting for more details to emerge.

Hochul's office has not issued a comment regarding the raid, nor has there been any indication that the recent activities relate directly to her current administration. Sun's legal representatives have also yet to make any formal statements on the matter.

All elements considered in the context of this raid reflect a delicate balance of legal processes, personal privacy, and the broad repercussions on public trust and political careers.
