FBI apprehends suspect in violent Texas anti-ICE attack

 July 16, 2025, NEWS

A major manhunt in Texas concluded with a significant arrest this week. Benjamin Song, a suspect in a brutal Independence Day attack on ICE agents, was finally captured by the FBI in Dallas.

According to Fox News, Song is accused of participating in a violent ambush at the Prairieland Detention Center in Alvarado, Texas, on July 4, 2025, where a local police officer was shot in the neck. The officer, thankfully, is expected to recover.

The FBI, after over a week of relentless pursuit, offered a $25,000 reward for information leading to Song's arrest and conviction. Special Agent in Charge R. Joseph Rothrock stated, "We would like to thank all the entities that publicized this case and assisted in our efforts to successfully locate Benjamin Song."

FBI's Tireless Hunt for Justice

Let's unpack that quote from Rothrock about thanking everyone involved. While the gratitude is warranted, one has to wonder why it took so long to track down a suspect deemed armed and dangerous, especially with a wounded officer in the balance.

Song, a 32-year-old former U.S. Marine Corps reservist, now faces federal charges for attempted murder of federal officers and discharging a firearm in a crime of violence. He joins ten other suspects already charged in connection with this shocking incident.

A twelfth individual, Daniel Rolando Sanchez-Estrada, also faces conspiracy to tamper with evidence charges related to the attack. Court records hint at deeper connections among the suspects, possibly coordinated through an online Signal chat group.

Disturbing Details of Planned Violence

The Independence Day ambush was no spontaneous act, as court documents reveal chilling preparation. A criminal complaint from July 7 describes how assailants fired 20 to 30 rounds from an AR-15-style rifle before it jammed, potentially averting an even greater tragedy.

Investigators uncovered anti-government literature titled "Organising for Attack! Insurrectionary Anarchy" in an apartment linked to a suspect. Flyers with slogans like "Fight ICE terror with class war!" were also found, alongside graffiti on cars labeling them "Ice pig" and "traitor."

These materials point to a deeply rooted ideological venom against law enforcement and federal authority. It's hard to ignore how such rhetoric, often amplified by certain activist circles, can escalate into real-world violence against those who protect our borders.

Song's Troubled Past Surfaces

Adding layers to this case, Song's background raises eyebrows with prior legal entanglements. He was named in a 2023 lawsuit for allegedly assaulting protesters at a drag queen brunch near Fort Worth while reportedly tied to an Antifa group and the Elm Fork Brown Gun Club.

Reports from that incident describe Song and others wearing face coverings while counter-protesting against a Christian nationalist group. Such actions suggest a pattern of confrontational behavior long before the Independence Day attack on ICE agents.

While Song's personal history doesn't excuse his alleged crimes, it paints a picture of someone drawn to radical causes. One might question how much of this stems from a culture that often glorifies resistance over dialogue.

Broader Implications for Law and Order

Song's family connections add a curious footnote, though they are not accused of any wrongdoing. His father, Tailim Song, is a registered Democrat and partner at a Dallas law firm, while his mother, Hope Song, runs a martial arts studio in Arlington, Texas, focused on empowering women and girls.

The attack on the Prairieland Detention Center, alongside two other recent ambushes on ICE agents, signals a troubling trend of targeted violence against federal personnel. When policies and narratives demonize border enforcement, it's no surprise that some take it as a call to action.

This case should serve as a wake-up call to prioritize the safety of those who uphold our laws, rather than allowing divisive ideologies to fester unchecked. If we don't address the root of such hostility, we risk more officers paying the price for a broken discourse.
