Ex-National Guard Member Plotted ISIS Attack

According to Fox News, A 19-year-old former Michigan Army National Guard member got a rude awakening when the FBI nabbed him for plotting a mass shooting at a U.S. Army base. Ammar Abdulmajid-Mohamed Said thought he could waltz into infamy with an ISIS-inspired attack, but law enforcement had other plans. Turns out, playing terrorist isn’t as easy as posting edgy memes.

Said, a Melvindale, Michigan, native, was arrested on May 13, 2025, after scheming to attack the Tank-Automotive & Armaments Command (TACOM) facility in Warren. This wasn’t a spur-of-the-moment tantrum; the kid had been plotting with what he thought were ISIS buddies, only to find out they were undercover FBI agents. Classic case of thinking you’re a mastermind, but you’re just a pawn.

Said’s journey to jihadist daydreams began when he enlisted in the Michigan Army National Guard in September 2022. He trained at Fort Moore in Georgia, reported to the Taylor Armory, and seemed like just another recruit. But by December 2024, the Guard showed him the door, likely sensing he wasn’t exactly patriot material.

From Soldier to Sympathizer

By June 2024, Said was chatting with an undercover FBI agent, believing he’d found a fellow ISIS fanboy. He spilled his guts about wanting to wage “violent jihad,” either abroad or right here in the U.S. Someone should’ve told him that jihadist LARPing doesn’t end well when the feds are screenshotting your texts.

“I want to go for Jihad,” Said the man in a 2023 Facebook message to some rando in the Palestinian territories. The reply? “Talk to me on Telegram.” Oh, how quaint—moving to encrypted apps like it’s a spy movie, only to end up in an FBI sting.

A covert search of Said’s iPhone in July 2024 revealed his digital descent into extremism. Telegram channels flaunting ISIS flags and a thirst for chaos painted a clear picture: this wasn’t just youthful rebellion. Said was all in, and not for the good guys.

Planning a Deadly Plot

Fast forward to April 2025, and Said was handing out armor-piercing ammo and magazines to two undercover officers posing as his attack crew. He thought he was orchestrating an ISIS blockbuster, but the script was written by the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force. Plot twist: the bad guy doesn’t win this one.

Said even flew a drone over TACOM for “reconnaissance,” probably feeling like a tactical genius. Newsflash: launching drones near a military base is about as subtle as a neon sign saying, “Arrest me!” The FBI was watching, and they weren’t impressed.

He didn’t stop there. Said trained his fake comrades in firearms and Molotov cocktail crafting, because nothing says “I’m a serious terrorist” like DIY firebombs. He even mapped out TACOM’s layout, picking the perfect building to target, oblivious to the fact that his “team” was reporting every move.

Undercover Sting Shuts Down

“I recommend everyone have about seven magazines because you don’t want to be in there and run out of ammo,” Said an undercover agent. Pro tip: if you’re giving ammo advice to strangers, maybe check they’re not wired. His bravado only dug his hole deeper. On May 13, 2025, Said’s grand plan crashed when he launched that drone near TACOM. The FBI swooped in, cuffs ready, and hauled him off before he could do any damage. Actions have consequences, and said learning that the hard way.

Now, Said faces charges of attempting to support a foreign terrorist organization and sharing destructive device information. Each count could slap him with 20 years in prison, which gives him plenty of time to rethink his life choices. Youthful stupidity doesn’t get a free pass when it’s this dangerous.

Justice Department Responds Swiftly

“This defendant is charged with planning a deadly attack on a U.S. military base here at home for ISIS,” said Sue J. Bai, head of the Justice Department’s National Security Division. She’s not wrong, but let’s not kid ourselves—Said’s “plan” was more delusional than deadly, thanks to the FBI’s quick work. Still, the intent was there, and that’s chilling enough. Bai added, “Thanks to the tireless efforts of law enforcement, we foiled the attack before lives were lost.” Cue the applause for the feds, who played Said like a fiddle while protecting our troops. This is what real counterterrorism looks like, no woke excuses needed.

The lesson here? You can’t just swap your National Guard uniform for an ISIS flag and expect to skate by. Said’s betrayal of his oath and country landed him in a cell, and the system worked to stop him cold. Let’s hope others take note before they try to play the same losing game.
