An assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump has left the nation in shock.
According to the Daily Mail, an emergency room doctor at a Trump rally revealed how he performed CPR on a crowd member after an attempted assassination shooting.
During the unsettling events of July 13, a would-be assassin fired from roughly 100 yards away, hitting Trump in the right ear while he addressed supporters. The chaotic scene erupted just as the Republican National Convention loomed on the horizon, underscoring the gravity of the incident.
An emergency room doctor attending the rally sprang into action, administering CPR to a severely injured attendee.
The doctor recounted the urgency:
I heard the shots. I thought it was firecrackers, to begin with. Somebody over there was screaming 'he's been shot he's been shot. The guy had spun around and was jammed between the benches and a headshot here. There's lots of blood and he had brain matter.
Other attendees were thrown into panic as law enforcement swarmed the area to secure the former President and the crowd. The Secret Service, alongside local police, swiftly evacuated Trump to a nearby medical facility, while the rally ground turned into a major crime scene.
The shooter, identified as Thomas Matthew Crookies, was later found deceased. Investigations revealed additional threats when explosive devices were uncovered in Crookes's vehicle and residence, suggesting a premeditated attack. This finding led to further security sweeps in the area.
The immediate aftermath saw Trump being treated at a local hospital. Despite the attack, he confirmed via Truth Social his intention to attend the upcoming convention.
"Most importantly, I want to extend my condolences to the family of the person at the Rally who was killed, and also to the family of another person that was badly injured," stated Trump.
President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden were quick to express their concern. President Biden’s statement highlighted national solidarity:
I have been briefed on the shooting at Donald Trump’s rally in Pennsylvania. I’m grateful to hear that he’s safe and doing well. I’m praying for him and his family and for all those who were at the rally, as we await further information.
Following the event, the U.S. Secret Service emphasized the ongoing investigation into the details of the incident. "The Secret Service has implemented protective measures and the former president is safe. This is now an active Secret Source investigation, and further information will be released when it is available," they confirmed.
While the investigation continues, the full motivations of the assailant or the extent of the planned violence remain unclear. Yet, the resilience of the community and the swift response by authorities prevented what could have resulted in even greater tragedy.
An attempt on Donald Trump's life during a public gathering has cast a shadow over what should have been a routine campaign event. The swift responses from medical personnel on-site, law enforcement, and political leaders underline the seriousness of the attack while reaffirming commitments to public safety and freedom of expression. The incident has undoubtedly set a somber tone as the nation approaches the Republican National Convention.
