A driver, identified as Kai-Ji Adam Lo, deliberately drove into a crowd at a cultural festival, resulting in 11 fatalities and severe injuries to several attendees, Fox News reported.
The disaster transpired in a South Vancouver neighborhood where people gathered to celebrate their rich Filipino heritage. The evening of April 26, 2025, changed from a festive to a horrific scene when a black Audi SUV, maneuvered by 30-year-old Kai-Ji Adam Lo, plowed through the crowd just after 8 p.m.
Kai-Ji Adam Lo was arrested at the scene immediately following the incident, which witnessed casualties ranging in age from 5 to 65. This response prevented further harm and facilitated quick aid to the injured.
Currently held by authorities, Kai-Ji faces eight counts of second-degree murder. The Vancouver Police Department has commenced a thorough investigation led by their Major Crime Section, dismissing any links to terrorism and attributing the cause to Lo's documented mental health struggles.

So we tried to go there just to check what was really actually happening until we found some bodies on the ground. Others were lifeless, others like, you know, injured... I couldn’t even imagine that it’s actually happening in real life, because normally we see that on TVs or movies. But when you are in that kind of situation, it was really shocking. ... You couldn’t do anything but to pray for them.
The immediate aftermath of the crash was captured in numerous social media videos, showing victims and extensive debris spread across the road. The footage also depicted the disfigured vehicle that caused so much destruction.
Interim Chief Steve Rai called this tragedy "the darkest day in Vancouver’s history," as the community now faces the long process of mourning and healing.
