Doocy Calls Out White House on Harris Face Accent

 September 4, 2024

Kamala Harris campaigned in Detroit over the holiday weekend, but this did not happen without some controversy.

People quickly noticed that Harris was giving the identical speech she gave in Pittsburgh, but her accent had noticeably changed, and Fox News' Peter Doocy asked the White House to explain.

Same Speech, Two Ways

During a recent campaign speech in Pittsburgh pandering to unions, Harris sounded more or less like her usual California nasal self. Over Labor Day weekend, she was in Detroit giving the same speech, only she sounded like she was trying to be a preacher with a Southern accent, a little trick that Barack Obama used to pull when he was campaigning in the South to make everyone think he was one of them.

In her speech, Harris told the crowd:

"You better thank a union member for the five-day workweek.

"You better thank a union member for sick leave. You better thank a union member for paid leave. You better thank a union member for vacation time."

But to understand just how different this was, watch the video below…

Doocy Calls Harris Out

Fox News' Peter Doocy sent White House Karine Jean-Pierre into a tizzy on Tuesday by asking her about Harris' suddenly found southern accent, and the question did not go over too well. At first, KJP said she had "no idea" what Doocy was talking about, so he explained:

"Well, she was talking about unions in Detroit using one tone of voice, she used the same line in Pittsburgh, and it sounded like she at least had some kind of Southern drawl?"

At which point KJP went off, responding:

"I mean, do you hear the question that you're – I mean, do you think Americans seriously think that this is an important question?

"You know what they care about? They care about the economy, they care about lowering costs, they care about health care. That's what they want to hear…democracy and freedom… I'm not going to even entertain some question about … it's just. Hearing it sounds so ridiculous. The question – I'm talking about the question  – is just insane."

Analysis

The funny thing is that people do care because it speaks to the authenticity of the individual, in this case, Kamala Harris, who happens to be running for president of the United States. Harris is going overboard trying to make voters think she is one of them, but Harris is anything but. She did not grow up poor or struggling—quite the opposite, actually.

Harris's parents were both scholars; her mother was a biologist and her father was the first black scholar granted tenure at Standford University's Department of Economics. Her family left California in 1966, only two years after Harris was born, and moved to the Midwest, eventually relocating to Montreal. Harris attended Vanier College in Montreal, then Howard, and finally Hastings College of the Law. Immediately after law school, Harris was hired as a Deputy District Attorney in California, and the rest, as they say, is history. She has a privileged past, far better than just about everyone reading this article, so, no, Harris is not one of us, and she surely should not be talking like a Southern preacher on the stump.
