Donald Trump hopes the Supreme Court will intervene before his sentencing hearing with Judge Merchan next month in the hush-money case.
Trump pleaded with the court to “decide” his case before Merchan drops the hammer with possible jail time for Trump.

- Trump appeals
- Trump asks Supreme Court for help
- Analysis
With the guilty verdict now in, Donald Trump has to start the appeals process. Some legal experts who support Trump think that he should go directly to the Supreme Court, but I think that would be a mistake. I will get more into that in just a bit.
For now, Trump’s legal team will have to file with the appellate court, which could take months to hear. If Trump loses at that level, he can take the case to the State Supreme Court. Then, if he loses that case, he could ask the Supreme Court to take the case.
I suggest using every outlet at his disposal and dragging this out as long as possible so it does not impact the upcoming election. One of the lower courts could easily overturn this case, so there is no need to rush to the Supreme Court here.
On Sunday, Trump pleaded with the court to help him in his case via a post on Truth Social. Trump wrote:
"The 'Sentencing' for not having done anything wrong will be, conveniently for the Fascists, 4 days before the Republican National Convention.
"A Radical Left Soros backed D.A., who ran on a platform of 'I will get Trump,' reporting to an 'Acting' Local Judge, appointed by the Democrats, who is HIGHLY CONFLICTED, will make a decision which will determine the future of our Nation? The United States Supreme Court MUST DECIDE!"
The court already has one case before it, that being the presidential immunity case. I believe the justices will kick the case back to the lower courts to determine what specific crimes Trump is alleged to have committed, then have the lower courts make their ruling on those crimes, at which point the court will take the case back for its decision.
Trump's request for the Supreme Court to intervene in this case on Truth Social is extremely premature, in my opinion. The only way the court can intervene is if his attorneys file an emergency appeal. The court does not take up random cases because they are requested on a social media platform.
As I stated above, I don’t see the logic in even attempting to take this case to the Supreme Court, especially when Trump has not exhausted all other appeals.
Based on the court’s history, my gut tells me that this case would be declined to allow the appeals process to play out at the lower levels. The last thing this particular court wants to do is directly overturn a jury verdict without Trump having gone through the appeals process.
Donald Trump also needs to think big picture here because if a court with three justices appointed by Trump were to immediately overturn a verdict, regardless of it being the right call, Democrats would lose their minds and start talking about packing the court again. Let this all play out, and I am pretty sure this case will get flipped on appeal in the lower courts.
