As bombs fell on Iran, Democrats were busy fundraising off the crisis while holding our national security agencies hostage.
That is the state of the opposition party in 2026. Not rallying behind their country at a time of heightened risk. Not even staying quiet. Instead, they are sabotaging Americans' safety and exploiting the situation for money and power.
The good news is that they are showing the American people what they are truly about.
With American forces engaged in combat operations against Iran and the inevitable heightened risks for terrorist reprisals on our shores, one might expect a unified political class. One might expect that keeping the Department of Homeland Security funded would be the kind of no-brainer that transcends partisan squabbling.
One would be wrong.
Democrats shut down the Department of Homeland Security over Presidents' Day weekend. According to Town Hall, Republicans wanted another two-week continuing resolution to keep the agency funded, but Democrats rejected it. The result: DHS is now working without operational funds at the exact moment the homeland security threat environment has escalated dramatically.
This is not an abstract budget dispute. This is a funding lapse for the department whose name literally contains the words "Homeland Security" during a period when the homeland faces elevated danger.
There is a particular brand of opposition politics that treats every Republican priority as a hostage opportunity. Democrats have spent years demanding that immigration enforcement be defunded, that ICE be abolished, and that border security be treated as optional. Now they have found a procedural mechanism to achieve the same result without having to say it out loud.
A two-week continuing resolution is a stopgap. It is the legislative equivalent of keeping the lights on while the adults negotiate. Rejecting it doesn't advance a policy goal. It doesn't produce leverage for some alternative vision. It simply creates chaos and then allows Democrats to blame Republicans for the consequences.
Consider what Democrats are actually communicating with this move:
This is not opposition. It is sabotage dressed in procedural clothing.
The left has spent years insisting that Republicans are the party of chaos, that conservative governance is inherently destabilizing. Yet here, in real time, it is Democrats who chose to weaponize a national security moment for political advantage. Congress was asked to do the bare minimum: keep DHS funded for two more weeks. Democrats couldn't manage even that.
The timing is not a coincidence and should not be treated as one. Creating a DHS funding lapse during active military operations against a state sponsor of terrorism is not a miscalculation. The Democratic braintrust understood exactly what was happening when they rejected the continuing resolution. They made a choice.
And the choice tells you everything about their priorities... that priority was to raise money off a crisis, and the price of liberty being paid by our soldiers...

This is the reality of the Democrat Party today. Everything is an opportunity for power, nothing more. Conservatives fight for freedom and independence, and we do it both here and abroad. Democrats are now literally advocating for a terrorist nation because they believe it will drive fundraising to give them an edge in the upcoming election. Just allow that to sink in for a few moments to realize how horrific it truly is.
The strikes against Iran will produce consequences that unfold over weeks and months. Intelligence operations will need to intensify. Border security will need to tighten. The agencies under the DHS umbrella will need every tool and every dollar available to respond to whatever comes next.
Republicans will need to force this funding question back into the spotlight immediately. The American public deserves to know which party tried to keep the homeland security apparatus running and which party pulled the plug during wartime.
Democrats chose this fight at this moment. They should own every second of it.
