Democrat Calls For Supreme Court Justices To Be Removed After Trump Ruling

 March 5, 2024

In a surprising turn of events, the Supreme Court's recent decision has sparked outrage among Democrats, with some calling for the removal of justices.

The Supreme Court unanimously ruled that states cannot disqualify federal candidates from ballots, stating that only Congress has the authority to do so under the Fourteenth Amendment's "Insurrection Clause," overturning a previous decision by the Colorado Supreme Court that had banned former President Donald Trump from appearing on the 2024 presidential ballot.

The ruling, which came just before Super Tuesday, has been met with disappointment and criticism from various Democratic officials and commentators. Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold expressed her dissatisfaction with the decision, arguing that it stripped states of their authority to enforce Section 3 of the 14th Amendment for federal candidates.

Progressives Express Frustration With Supreme Court's Ruling

The Supreme Court's decision has drawn sharp criticism from progressive journalists and commentators. CNN's Dana Bash called the decision "unfortunate for America," while Vox's Ian Milhiser mocked the idea that a written constitution can effectively check tyrannical government.

CNN legal analyst Norm Eisen criticized the timing of the decision, suggesting that it appeared political and could influence the primary elections. He also noted that the Supreme Court did not explicitly deny that Trump was "an insurrectionist," leaving the issue open for criminal authorities and the American people to decide.

Democrats Call For Extreme Measures Following Decision

Some Democrats have gone as far as suggesting extreme measures in response to the Supreme Court's ruling. Former sportscaster and political commentator Keith Olbermann called for the court's dissolution, labeling it corrupt and illegitimate.

Olbermann stated:

The Supreme Court has betrayed democracy. Its members including Jackson, Kagan, and Sotomayor have proved themselves inept at reading comprehension. And collectively the 'court' has shown itself to be corrupt and illegitimate. It must be dissolved.

Gen Z Democrat influencer Harry Sisson focused his criticism solely on Justice Clarence Thomas, suggesting that the headline should read, "Insurrection sympathizer Clarence Thomas ruled that insurrectionist Donald Trump can remain on the ballot in 2024."

Broader Debate On Supreme Court's Role And Power Highlighted

The backlash against the Supreme Court's decision highlights a broader debate on the role and power of the institution, the interpretation of the Constitution, and the process of disqualifying federal candidates from elections. As the nation grapples with the implications of this ruling, how it will impact the upcoming primary elections and the 2024 presidential race remains to be seen.

The Supreme Court's unanimous decision in Trump v. Anderson, No. 23-719, has overturned a previous ruling by the Colorado Supreme Court that had banned former President Donald Trump from appearing on the 2024 presidential ballot.

The ruling has sparked significant backlash from Democrats and progressives, with some calling for extreme measures such as the court's dissolution. The decision has highlighted a broader debate on the role and power of the Supreme Court, the interpretation of the Constitution, and the process of disqualifying federal candidates from elections.

As the nation moves forward, the implications of this ruling on the upcoming primary elections and the 2024 presidential race remain uncertain.
