Delia Ramirez Demands Kristi Noem's Resignation or Impeachment

 December 14, 2025, NEWS

Washington, D.C., is once again a battleground as a fierce clash over immigration policy ignites between a Democratic lawmaker and the Department of Homeland Security’s top official.

According to Newsweek, this latest controversy centers on Rep. Delia Ramirez, D-Ill., who has called for the resignation or impeachment of DHS Secretary Kristi Noem over allegations of misleading Congress, misusing resources, and ignoring court orders while overseeing agencies like Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection.

The drama unfolded Thursday during a heated House Homeland Security Committee hearing, where Ramirez didn’t hold back in her criticism of Noem’s leadership.

Ultimatum Issued at Heated Hearing

With the room buzzing and protestors interrupting, Ramirez laid out a stark choice for Noem: step down, be dismissed by President Donald Trump, or face impeachment proceedings.

“Your options are limited. You either resign, Trump fires you, or you will be impeached,” Ramirez declared at the hearing, setting a tone of no compromise.

Her accusations are serious—claiming Noem has misused congressional funds and disregarded legal oversight—yet one wonders if this is more political theater than a viable threat in a Republican-controlled House.

Accusations of Misconduct Pile Up

Ramirez doubled down, alleging Noem has made false statements to lawmakers and the public, a charge that’s hard to ignore when reports show over 170 U.S. citizens have been detained by immigration agents despite claims of targeting only unauthorized migrants.

At the same hearing, Rep. Seth Magaziner, D-R.I., pressed Noem on specific cases, like that of Donna Hughes Brown, a green card holder detained since July over a decade-old bad check, despite being married to a Navy combat veteran.

Noem’s response was to promise a review of Brown’s case and others, including a deported combat veteran who spoke via video, but skepticism remains about whether these promises will translate to action.

Republican Support Holds Firm

On the other side, Noem stood her ground, defending DHS’s enforcement of federal law and tougher border security measures under Trump’s administration.

“Under President Trump’s leadership, DHS is securing our borders, we’re restoring the rule of law, and we’re protecting the homeland,” Noem asserted at the hearing, framing her work as a necessary stand against chaos. Her defiance, coupled with Trump’s public backing—calling her “fantastic” to reporters—suggests she’s not going anywhere soon, no matter how loudly Democrats protest.

Political Realities Dim Impeachment Hopes

Despite Ramirez’s ultimatum and support from fellow Democrats like Ranking Member Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., who criticized Noem’s avoidance of oversight, the chances of impeachment advancing seem slim with Republicans holding the House majority.

Even Rep. Jim Jordan’s office, a key player as House Judiciary Chairman, dismissed Ramirez’s push as “toothless,” signaling that this fight might fizzle out before it gains traction.

While speculation swirls about Noem’s future at DHS, with rumors of replacement quickly shot down by White House officials, the deeper issue of immigration policy and executive accountability continues to divide Washington, leaving little room for common ground.
