House Republicans have cast a spotlight on the Biden administration's CHNV parole program, challenging its legality and efficacy in controlling the U.S. southern border.
Under the CHNV program instituted by the Department of Homeland Security, over 404,000 individuals from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela were allowed to enter the United States.
According to the Daily Wire, the CHNV (Cuban, Haitian, Nicaraguan, and Venezuelan) parole program has allowed these foreign nationals to enter and work in the U.S. for up to two years. Arranged and funded by the individuals themselves, the program has led to many arriving at major U.S. airports, with exceptionally high numbers in Miami and Fort Lauderdale.
Since its inception from January 2023 to August 2023, the program has funneled hundreds of thousands through 50 different U.S. airports. Florida has been the prime gateway, receiving over 151,000 of these individuals.
Other popular entry points through this program include urban centers such as New York City, Houston, and Los Angeles. Major airports like those in Orlando, Tampa, Dallas, San Francisco, and Atlanta have witnessed a significant influx.
Mark Green, the chair of the Homeland Security Committee, has expressed serious concerns regarding the administration's approach. According to him, the parole program veers away from the intent of U.S. immigration laws, which stipulate conditions under which inadmissible individuals can be allowed entry for urgent humanitarian reasons or significant public benefit.
Following a subpoena and an impeachment vote by the House, Green argued for accountability. He asserted that the Senate's failure to engage further supports the need for deeper investigation and action. In his view, the CHNV parole program is an illicit maneuver to mask the intensifying border troubles from public scrutiny.
Despite the array of destinations, including some international ones like Hawaii and the Bahamas, DHS maintains that these paroled individuals are still technically inadmissible by default.
Mark Green strongly echoes this sentiment, condemning the executive action as a breach of the Immigration and Nationality Act mandates.
