CNN's Chris Wallace has expressed his firm belief that Vice President Kamala Harris will not participate in a debate on Fox News.
According to The Western Journal, Wallace stated there is "absolutely 0 percent chance" that Harris would agree to debate on the network.
The former Fox News anchor shared his insights during an appearance on CNN News Central. Wallace's prediction comes in the wake of former President Donald Trump's challenge to Harris for a debate on Fox News, scheduled for September 4. The vice president has not responded to this invitation.
Wallace recounted a revealing incident from 2019 when Harris was running for president. He and the president of Fox News attempted to arrange meetings with various Democratic candidates to discuss potential town halls or interviews on the network.
While other candidates like Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders agreed to meet, Harris stood out as the only Democrat who refused even an off-the-record meeting to consider appearing on Fox. This past behavior, according to Wallace, informs his current prediction about Harris's willingness to debate on the network.
Wallace emphasized the unlikelihood of Harris agreeing to a Fox News appearance, stating: "There is a 0 percent chance that she will agree to an interview on Fox."
The discussion about potential debates comes on the heels of a recent face-off between Trump and Harris. The two candidates participated in a debate on Tuesday moderated by ABC anchors David Muir and Linsey Davis.
Following this debate, Trump expressed dissatisfaction with the moderation, accusing the anchors of displaying bias against him. He claimed they fact-checked him more frequently than his opponent and went as far as calling for the network's media license to be revoked.
In a statement released on Thursday, Trump declared his refusal to participate in another debate with Harris. He cited her alleged failure to show up for other potential debates that were to be moderated by CBS News, Fox News, and NBC News.
Trump took to Truth Social to express his position, writing:
She was a no-show at the Fox Debate, and refused to do NBC & CBS. KAMALA SHOULD FOCUS ON WHAT SHE SHOULD HAVE DONE DURING THE LAST ALMOST FOUR YEAR PERIOD. THERE WILL BE NO THIRD DEBATE.
This statement came after Trump had initially proposed three debates during an August 8 press conference. The Harris campaign had agreed to an October debate, contingent on Trump's participation in the September 10 event.
Chris Wallace's prediction of Harris's refusal to debate on Fox News stems from her past reluctance to engage with the network. Trump has challenged Harris to a Fox News debate, which she has not accepted.
Following their recent ABC-moderated debate, Trump has declared he will not participate in further debates with Harris. The situation highlights the complex dynamics surrounding presidential debates and candidates' relationships with various media outlets.
