Chick-fil-A pulls the plug on its delivery-only burger and pizza experiment

Chick-fil-A's experimental sister chain, Little Blue Menu, will shut its only remaining restaurant and convert the site to a traditional Chick-fil-A location by 2027, ending a five-year test that never gained traction.

The company confirmed that its College Park, Maryland, storefront, the last Little Blue Menu standing, will close and become a standard Chick-fil-A. A spokesperson described the concept to Restaurant Dive as a "test-and-learn" effort aimed at finding "new ways to serve guests" around the country, The Sun reported.

No exact closure date has been announced. Customers have "only months left" to order from the menu, which departed sharply from the chicken chain's usual fare by offering burgers and pizza through a delivery-only model.

Nashville opened first, and closed first

Chick-fil-A launched Little Blue Menu in 2021 with a physical location in Nashville, Tennessee. The concept operated as a delivery-only test kitchen, serving items the parent brand had never touched. Nashville shut down in 2023.

That same year, the College Park location opened and became the sole remaining storefront. Food truck pop-ups continued in several states, though the company has not said whether those will also wind down.

On its website, Chick-fil-A said Little Blue Menu was created to honor the "spirit of innovation" of founder S. Truett Cathy. The spirit, evidently, ran its course.

A quiet admission that the market spoke

Chick-fil-A built its dominance on a famously narrow menu and a service model that keeps drive-through lines moving faster than almost any competitor. Little Blue Menu asked customers to accept a different brand, a different menu, and a delivery-only format, all from a company whose identity is built on in-store hospitality and chicken sandwiches.

The company's decision to convert the Maryland site back to a traditional Chick-fil-A rather than try a third city tells the story plainly. After two locations in four years, neither survived long enough to prove the concept could stand on its own.

Chick-fil-A has not disclosed whether any Little Blue Menu items will carry over to the converted location or to the broader chain. The 2027 conversion timeline suggests a full rebuild rather than a quick rebrand.

Companies that know their strengths stick to them. Chick-fil-A tried something different, watched it underperform, and moved on, which is how a well-run business is supposed to work.
