Less than a month into his second administration, President Donald Trump's popularity has reached a new peak.
According to the latest CBS News/YouGov poll, 53% of U.S. adults now approve of President Trump’s job performance, Newsmax reported.
This record approval is a significant indicator less than three weeks into his additional term. It reflects President Trump's policies on a range of domestic and international issues. The survey details how Americans are responding to his leadership style, particularly his approaches to national security and immigration.
With 59% of respondents approving his handling of national security and the migrant crisis, it appears that Trump's policies in these areas are resonating with the populace. This approval likely reflects public perception of improved security and effective crisis management compared to the situation under Trump's predecessor, former President Joe Biden.
Moreover, 64% of Americans support the decision to deploy U.S. troops to the southern border, a move initiated by Trump in the first week of his second term through an executive order that sent approximately 1,500 troops to counter illegal crossings.
However, Americans show divisions on some of Trump's strategies, notably the proposal to create large detention centers for migrants at the border. Here, the nation is almost evenly split with 48% in favor and 52% opposed.
Concerning other international matters, the response is mixed. Although 54% approve of how Trump is managing the conflict in Gaza between Israel and Hamas, only a mere 13% support his extreme suggestion to take over Gaza.
While Trump has managed to uphold a tough and energetic profile, with 69% of survey respondents describing him as tough, his economic policies receive a mixed review. Particularly, 66% of respondents feel he does not focus adequately on reducing prices, which might trouble many amidst various economic challenges.
Furthermore, his stance on tariffs is leading to a specific divide among his supporters and critics. Whereas Americans generally oppose tariffs on Mexico, Europe, and Canada, a notable majority are in favor of tariffs on Chinese imports, reflecting a tougher stance towards trade with China.
The view on involving celebrities like Elon Musk and currencies like DogeCoin in government decisions is also noteworthy. Around 51% of those surveyed hint at some form of influence for Musk and DogeCoin on government operations, with 23% advocating for significant influence, indicating a shift toward unconventional opinions on governance and economic interventions.
Top characteristics attributed to President Trump in this survey include being "energetic," "focused," and "effective," showcasing a public perception that aligns with his dynamic approach to governance. Moreover, 70% of the public believe he is fulfilling his campaign promises, which bolsters his support base.
Despite his successes, Trump’s administration is contending with criticism, particularly from Democrats scrutinizing his Cabinet selections and the actions of the Department of Government Efficiency aimed at streamlining operations and curtailing government spending.
