Bryan Braman, a celebrated former NFL player, confronts a dire health crisis.
At age 38, Braman is waging a formidable battle against a rare and severe cancer, undergoing extensive treatments and struggling financially, the New York Post reported.
Bryan Braman, known for his tenure with the Philadelphia Eagles, secured a Super Bowl win in February 2018. His career spanned seven years, beginning with the Houston Texans as an undrafted free agent in 2011. Braman was instrumental on special teams during his professional football career.
However, his life took an unexpected turn when he was diagnosed with a dangerous form of cancer. The specifics of his condition have not been made public, but his situation has grown increasingly severe.
Braman underwent an advanced CAR T-cell therapy in Seattle, a process stretching across 12 weeks, in an attempt to combat his illness. Despite this, the cancer around his vital organs has proliferated, complicating his recovery and limiting his treatment options.
As medical bills piled up, Braman had to sell his last car and currently has no permanent residence. Fundraising efforts led by William Jones have raised over $38,000 to support Braman's treatment and living expenses. Notably, former teammate J.J. Watt contributed $10,000.
The funds are also helping Braman maintain a necessary diet and purchase vitamins, which are crucial for his weakened state but come at a high cost.
On June 20, an update revealed that Braman is back with his family but is suffering from reduced immunity due to multiple surgeries. "By the time he was able to recover so he could continue with the chemo, the cancer has grown expeditionally [sic] faster, and it is now growing around his vital organs," William Jones wrote.
According to Jones, doctors are now concerned as previous treatments have restricted Braman's chemotherapy options.
The Dr's are now concerned because of his treatment, his chemo options are very limited. They have tried all of the various treatment options, and unfortunately, none of them are working against this cancer.
Despite these daunting challenges, Braman remains determined. He is exploring other trial treatment programs, holding onto hope and the support of his community.
"But Bryan has not given up. He is looking into other trial treatment programs, and is determined to never give up," expressed William Jones.
The financial support through the GoFundMe page has been a vital lifeline for Braman.
Bryan will be able to get the necessities for his diet. He needs to keep up his energy through his diet, and his foods/vitamins are extremely expensive, as are fresh juices which are what he needs. These donations will also go along [sic] way too [sic] help cover some of the treatment costs that are not covered by insurances. That has greatly helped Bryan to not have to focus on those, and now he can relaxe [sic] and recuperate.
Bryan Braman’s journey from NFL stardom to battling life-threatening cancer highlights a stark reality many face with severe illnesses—a reality of medical complexities, financial burdens, and the relentless pursuit of new hopes and treatments. His spirit, supported by the generosity and goodwill of others, underscores a community's power to uplift one of its struggling members during his most challenging times.
