Jordan Wright, a 33-year-old British reality television personality known for appearances on "The Only Way Is Essex" and "Ex on the Beach," was found dead in a drainage canal near Bang Tao Beach in Phuket, Thailand, on March 14. Thai police say the investigation remains open and an autopsy is pending.
A worker discovered Wright's body face down in still water, as Fox News Digital reported, citing local reports via Deadline. A hotel key was found in his pocket. Police said there were no immediate signs of foul play.
ITV, the network behind "The Only Way Is Essex," confirmed Wright's death on Thursday. The circumstances surrounding his final hours in Phuket raise questions that Thai authorities have yet to answer, and the autopsy results from Vachira Phuket Hospital could take time.
Police Lt. Col. Sutthirak Chuthong of the Choeng Thale Police Station told the Daily Mail that Wright had been staying at a nearby hotel. He checked in alone and was due to check out on March 13. He never did.
"Hotel records showed that he had checked in alone and was due to check out on March 13, but staff reported that he never checked out."
When the hotel could not reach Wright, police got involved. Chuthong said officers searched Wright's room and found nothing unusual.
"A search of the room revealed no signs of forced entry or other irregularities."
CCTV footage from the hotel told a different kind of story. Chuthong described Wright's movements in the hours before his death as agitated. He appeared "restless," pacing back and forth in front of the hotel before leaving the area. His movements, Chuthong said, "eventually led to the location where his body was later discovered."
Investigators believe Wright had been dead for less than two days before the worker found him.
Chuthong was direct about the limits of what police can say right now. He told the Daily Mail that authorities are waiting on the autopsy to determine whether drugs were present in Wright's system. He would not speculate on a cause of death.
"We cannot confirm the exact cause of death until the autopsy results are released. If relatives or friends have concerns about the cause of death, they can contact the police station."
The CCTV footage, Chuthong added, is part of the case file and cannot be released at this stage. Fox News Digital reported that it reached out to the Royal Thai Police for comment.
That leaves Wright's family and friends waiting for answers from a foreign police force operating under its own timeline and its own rules. For anyone who has dealt with the death of a loved one overseas, the frustration is familiar. Jurisdictional barriers, language gaps, and bureaucratic delays can stretch grief into something far worse.

His final post, dated March 6, showed him relaxing in an infinity pool with a glass of wine, scuba diving, riding a motorbike, and exploring the country. He captioned it simply: "I'm Home," alongside a Thai flag emoji.
Eight days later he was dead in a drainage canal.
After news of Wright's death broke, fellow reality TV figures left tributes in the comments section of that final Instagram post. "TOWIE" star Chloe Brockett wrote "Rest in Peace." "Love Island" alum Chloe Crowhurst posted "Rest in peace Jord." Influencer Brandon P Myers wrote, "Lost for words bro. Amazing memories with you mate. Rest easy brother." "Love Island" star Rykard Jenkins shared prayer hands and a heart emoji. DJ Saffron Stone left a string of red hearts.
An ITV spokesperson offered condolences on behalf of the show:
"Everyone at TOWIE sends their deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Jordan Wright at this very sad time."
The open questions in this case are basic ones. What killed Jordan Wright? How did he end up face down in a drainage canal near his hotel? Was substance use a factor? Did anyone else play a role?
