RJ Mitte, the Breaking Bad star who played Walter White’s son and championed actors with disabilities, has died at 34, officials say by suicide, with an investigation still underway.

TV Insider reported that Mitte died Monday, October 12, in Texas. TMZ, citing a county official, said the death was by suicide. Law enforcement officials said an investigation remains open. His representatives asked for privacy for the family.

Mitte was 34. He was best known for playing Walter White Jr., also called Flynn, on AMC’s Breaking Bad, a role that put him in 56 episodes of the series. At the time of his death he was living in Brownsville, Texas, his grandfather’s hometown, and working on community and arts projects there.

Disability diagnosis shaped his public work

Doctors diagnosed Mitte with cerebral palsy at age three. He later used his platform to push for more casting of actors with disabilities, arguing that people with real conditions should play those parts on screen.

Beyond Breaking Bad, his credits included The Oak Room, The Recall, and The Guardians of Justice. Fans knew him as a steady screen presence and as a public voice for representation.

Engagement, a costar reunion, and final photos

Mitte had been engaged since 2025 to his longtime girlfriend, Kennedy Suarez. In the days before his death he reunited with Breaking Bad costar Luis Moncada and shared smiling photos from the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta on Instagram. Much of Breaking Bad had been filmed in Albuquerque, so the trip carried an obvious full-circle feel for people who followed his career.

He also spoke about service and shared goals in a community-page interview. On that point he was plain:

"Look for the difference you want to make. Look for the difference that you believe in. I think it’s so important that when we have worked with others, it is not just about our goals. It’s your goals as well. What are you trying to achieve, and what are you trying to achieve for your community?"

That message matched the work he was doing in Brownsville when he died, local projects, arts, and community goals rather than only Hollywood credits.

What officials have said so far

A county official’s confirmation, relayed through TMZ, is the basis for the suicide finding reported Monday. Law enforcement has not released a named spokesperson quote beyond the note that the investigation is ongoing. No method details have been made public in the reporting, and the specific Texas county has not been identified in the account above.

Family representatives have asked the public to give his relatives space. No separate on-the-record statement from Suarez or from a named family member has been published in that same report.

Mitte’s run on Breaking Bad made him familiar to a wide audience; his advocacy made the role larger than a credit list. He leaves a fiancée, castmates who saw him only days earlier, and a record of pressing the industry to hire performers with disabilities instead of talking around them.

A young life ended far too soon, and the work he urged on others, building something real for your own community, still stands as the better path.
