Biden, Obama, Clintons to Address DNC in Chicago

 August 12, 2024

The Democratic National Convention in Chicago this August will boast an impressive roster of speakers.

According to Breitbart News, headliners include President Joe Biden, former Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton, and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

The event, set for August 19-22, promises a series of speeches from high-profile party figures, firmly positioning Vice President Kamala Harris in the spotlight as she receives the party’s official baton for the upcoming presidential race.

Scheduled Speakers Highlight Democratic Heavyweights

Adding to the lineup, NBC News revealed that though former President Jimmy Carter cannot attend, his grandson Jason Carter will speak in his stead.

Political insiders have noted the significance of gathering such influential figures to support Vice President Harris. Her nomination by the Democratic National Committee (DNC) took place on a recent Friday without contest, following President Biden’s decision not to seek re-election and his subsequent endorsement of Harris.

The decision did stir some controversy. A recent Economist/YouGov poll showed discontent among a third of Americans, describing Harris's uncontested nomination as “unfair.”

Critics argue this sidelined over 14 million party voters who had no say in another candidate.

Vice President Harris to Take Center Stage

As the Vice President prepares to accept her nomination formally, many eyes will be on Harris’s ability to unite the party and appeal to the broader electorate. Her selection of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as running mate was announced shortly after her nomination.

Donald Trump weighed in on Harris’s past campaign performance, criticizing her early exit from the primary race and debating skills. He commented on her initial presidential bid, stating:

She was the first loser when, during the primary system, during the Democrat primary system. She was the first one to quit. And she quit. She had no votes, no support, and she was a bad debater, by the way. Very bad debater.

Convention Speaks to Broader Democratic Strategy

Insight into the strategic undercurrents of the DNC was provided by sources familiar with the convention's set-up. They stressed the importance of past leaders like Obama and Biden emphasizing continuity and experience to reinforce Harris's candidacy.

This strategy is seen as crucial in rallying the base and drawing a stark contrast with the Republican narrative. With President Biden delivering a speech, such an appearance by a sitting president at the DNC is noted as rare and signifies the importance placed on this election cycle.

In summary, the Democratic National Convention is not just a platform for Vice President Kamala Harris’s formal acceptance but a herald of unified support from some of the party’s most influential figures. The lineup and their speeches are strategically tailored to maximize support for Harris and outline the party’s vision for America’s future.

With the participation of past presidents and the current, along with their endorsements, the DNC aims to solidify a strong foundation for Harris’s campaign and the Democratic agenda moving forward.
