Biden Set to Announce New Gun Control Office

 September 21, 2023

Reports are now breaking that Joe Biden is set to announce a new office for the federal government on Friday.

This will be a new gun control office, something that is likely to help Biden with younger voters in this country.

Talking Points…

  • The new office
  • The announcement
  • What gun advocates are saying
  • My Two Cents…

The New Office

The new office being established by Biden is called the Office of Gun Violence Prevention.

According to a Washington Post report:

“The new office will report up through Stefanie Feldman, the White House staff secretary, and a longtime Biden policy aide who has worked on the firearms issue for years.”

The report went on to see that coordination for the new office is expected between the "White House, the Community Justice Action Fund, and Everytown for Gun Safety."

In the official announcement of the office, Attorney General Merrick Garland stated:

"The Bipartisan Safer Communities Act was passed by Congress to reduce gun violence, including by expanding the background checks that keep guns out of the hands of criminals. This proposed rule implements Congress’s mandate to expand the definition of who must obtain a license and conduct a background check before selling firearms."

What Gun Advocates Are Saying

The office is obviously going to be a big hit with gun control advocates.

Shannon Watts, a Mike Bloomberg affiliate who founded Moms Demand Action, was among those heaping praise on Joe Biden for the new office.

She stated:

“If this announcement is, in fact, the creation of a single point of leadership on gun violence in the administration, it’s a very big deal for the movement."

"A governmental focal point dedicated to creating a framework for overseeing national policy, research and resources would be more than symbolic — it would be a significant turning point for the movement.”

Pat Murray, the chair of the Newtown Action Alliance, is also encouraged by the move, stating, "I do believe that the president is aware that this is a winning issue for him, and it is the high political ground. And obviously, it's a high moral ground."

My Two Cents…

I think too many people in this country confuse gun safety, gun laws, and gun violence.

The fact of the matter is that we already have a slew of laws on the books that are not regularly enforced.

There is also the fact that when people are caught, they are often set free in no-cash-bail cities and states.

We need to crack down on illegal guns and gun crimes, but yet we have the son of a sitting president whose attorneys are going to argue that his illegal possession of a handgun endangered nobody, so he should not be found guilty. Yet, these organizations are going to applaud Joe Biden for this office.

So, let's play what if…

What if Hunter was whacked out of his mind on crack and decided to shoot someone who he felt threatened by?

What if Hunter had accidentally shot one of the escorts when he had the gun out during his sexual exploits because he got a rush from adding the gun to his sex play and was not being careful handling the weapon?

Enforce the existing laws, get the illegal guns off the street, and shut down the border… that is something that will make a difference, not some new office that is clearly nothing more than a political tool for Biden to lure in gun control advocacy groups and younger voters who have made gun control a major focus for candidates they will support.
