Make no mistake about it, after Biden's debate performance, there was real panic in his campaign and among White House staffers.
Biden is trying to quell that panic with a note to all staffers about his campaign.
Talking Points…
- Mass panic within the Democrat Party
- Just calm down
- Analysis
Right after the debate, the panic that swept through the media and the Democrat Party was almost comical. They were all acting as though Joe's behavior was something new. We had all seen the signs for months of Joe's mental deterioration, but I guess the Dems and media actually believed the lies they were telling the American people.
At that point, virtually as soon as the debate ended, calls for Joe Biden to step down started to fly. Numerous major publications that had been selling Biden to the American people called for Biden to withdraw from the election. Then, the real damage started to take place. Vulnerable Democrats started to speak out against Biden, as did leaks within the White House.
For instance, Rep. Lloyd Doggett (D-TX) stated:
"My decision to make these strong reservations public is not done lightly nor does it in any way diminish my respect for all that President Biden has achieved.
"Recognizing that, unlike Trump, President Biden's first commitment has always been to our country, not himself, I am hopeful that he will make the painful and difficult decision to withdraw. I respectfully call on him to do so."
Then Rep. Raúl Grijalva (D-AZ) joined in, adding:
"If he's the candidate, I'm going to support him, but I think that this is an opportunity to look elsewhere.
"What he needs to do is shoulder the responsibility for keeping that seat — and part of that responsibility is to get out of this race."
The campaign knew that Biden was going to take hits in polling after the debate, but those polls, coupled with Biden's behavior that staffers had seen and the calls to have Biden step down, started to take their toll on morale. This led to the campaign issuing a memo to staffers stating:
"We are going to see a few polls come out today and we want you all to hear from us on what we know internally and what we expect to come externally.
"Polls are a snapshot in time and we should all expect them to continue to fluctuate – it will take a few weeks, not a few days, to get a full picture of the race."
The damage is going to be real, as Suffolk Political Research Center Director David Paleologos explained, stating:
"There's no question the debate sent out shock waves across the political landscape.
"Democrats in the poll are offering tough love to President Biden by saying to him, 'You've served us well, but try to see yourself last Thursday night through our eyes. Hold your head up high, it's time to go.'"
As I have stated before, there is no empathy for Democrats here because they could have pushed Biden out before he declared, but they all insisted that Biden was always "sharp and focused." Their talking points have come back to bite them as the entire nation saw what Joe Biden was all about during that debate. They are now in a no-win situation regardless of what they do, be it allowing Biden to stay in the race, forcing him out by the 25th Amendment, or convincing him to step down.
