Barr Rips Bragg Hush-money Case, Says He Will Back Trump

By Jerry McConway, updated on April 18, 2024

There is absolutely no love lost between Donald Trump and former two-time Attorney General William Barr.

Barr has been openly critical of Trump since leaving office, even calling him unfit for office, but he appears to have had a change of heart, with Biden once again being the Democrat candidate for the presidency on the left.

Talking Points…
- Barr shreds Bragg hush-money case
- Barr will back the Republican ticket

Barr Very Critical of Alvin Bragg Hush-money Case

When Bragg initially filed his indictment against Trump, I stated that I thought the case was weak at best. This case was more than six years old at the time, for an event that took place more than a decade ago. After having checked previous instances, this was always a low-end "crime" that usually resulted in a fine, penalties, interest, and a slap on the wrist, not the possibility of spending the rest of one's life in jail.

However, Bragg had no choice but to package the alleged crime this way because he had waited until the statute of limitations had run out for the misdemeanor crimes that this case would normally present. So, Bragg stacked ledger entries to create a 34-count felony indictment. Trust me, if Trump had not been running for office, there is no way this would have made it past the judge. Barr seems to agree with me, stating:

"This case is an abomination. It's obviously political. Seven years after he pays hush money to try to come up with this case. It's also, as you say, it's not only far-fetched… they're trying to predicate it on a federal crime which wasn't prosecuted.

"And they're wrong about it. This was not a campaign contribution. They're just wrong on the law. But to me, this shows that the real threat to liberty, the real threat to our system, are the excesses of the progressive left… They're perverting the system of justice, and… that's where the danger lies. The corruption and subversion of our institutions by the left."

Backing the Republican Ticket

Barr has been adamant during this election cycle that he does not think Donald Trump is fit for office. He has appeared on just about every mainstream media outlet, breaking down the different cases against Trump and discussing Trump when Barr was serving as the Attorney General.

Even so, Barr stated that he would be backing Trump during this election because of how dangerous Democrats have become to this country. On backing the GOP in the 2024 election, Barr stated:

"Given two bad choices, I think it's my duty to pick the person I think would do the least harm to the country, and in my mind... I will vote the Republican ticket.

"I think the real danger to the country, the real danger to democracy, as I say, is the progressive agenda.... and I said, Trump may be playing Russian roulette, but continuation of the Biden administration is national suicide, in my opinion."

Analysis

In previous reports, and I am not alone in this assessment, I have stated that the best way to deflect away from your plotting or wrongdoing is to accuse the other side of doing exactly what you are doing, and Democrats are masters at this.

How many times have you heard Democrats say that Donald Trump and Republicans in general are "a threat to our democracy." Some are even pushing the narrative that if Trump wins, there will never be another election in this country, as though Trump will anoint himself king and rule until he dies, which is utterly ludicrous.

Is there really anything on the Republican agenda that is a threat to this Republic? No. Where there is a threat, however, is the Democrat agenda. Think about it… they want to abolish the Electoral College, a fundamental cog in how our Framers and Founding Fathers established this country. They want to open our borders and destroy fossil fuel production to make us reliant on our adversaries and enemies for energy, and they seem intent on making Americans more reliant on the government instead of minimizing government.

So, whether you like Trump or not, you tell me… if you believe in our Constitution and the dream of our Framers and Founding Fathers, whose agenda is really a threat to this country?
