Dr. Anthony Fauci's fortunes have significantly increased in recent years.

According to newly released financial disclosures, Dr. Anthony Fauci's net worth escalated from roughly $7.6 million in 2019 to about $15 million by the end of 2023, the New York Post reported.

The watchdog organization Open The Books obtained 141 pages of financial-disclosure documents showing this financial climb. Starting the year with his retirement, Dr. Fauci swiftly transitioned to lucrative engagements that augmented his wealth.

A Detailed Look Into Fauci's Financial Gains

Throughout 2023, Dr. Fauci assembled earnings from various sources post-retirement. His engagements included a range of public speaking opportunities with substantial fees attached.

Among these were speeches delivered to prominent organizations. Dr. Fauci received $100,000 each for events in April, May, and June, and earned $150,000 in September. The most considerable sum came in November, totaling $700,000.

Additionally, Dr. Fauci entered the academic scene as a distinguished university professor at Georgetown University starting in July 2023. This role further contributed to his financial portfolio.

Significant Book Deal and Speaking Engagements

In a significant literary venture, March 2023 saw Dr. Fauci secure a book deal with Penguin Random House. His memoir, titled "On Call: A Doctor’s Journey in Public Service," was sold for $5 million and hit the shelves in June 2024. His vocal contributions to the academic and medical fields were also monetarily rewarded. Dr. Fauci received $50,000 from Columbia University’s Calderone Prize and $40,000 from the National Academy of Medicine’s Lienhard Prize. These accolades contributed to his rising financial status in his first retirement year.

Alongside him, his spouse, Dr. Christine Grady, continued her role at the National Institutes of Health as a top bioethicist, earning approximately $243,749 in 2023.

Security Costs Amid Financial Growth

Despite his retirement from public office, Dr. Fauci's safety was financed by taxpayer money. Reports indicate that from January 2023 to September 2024, around $15 million was allocated for his security. This provision of security generated critical comments on the use of public funds, especially following his substantial personal earnings.

John Hart, CEO of Open the Books, commented on Dr. Fauci’s financial success during challenging times for others. He said:

Dr. Fauci’s assets soared during the worst of the draconian Covid lockdowns while families and small businesses struggled through school closures and lost income. Now it’s clear the cash kept coming during his first year of ‘retirement.’ He was rubbing elbows with groups like [America’s Health Insurance Plans] flanked by taxpayer-funded security — even as his wife remained the top bioethicist at [the National Institutes of Health]

This scrutiny of Dr. Fauci's financial affairs and the continuation of taxpayer-funded initiatives like his security detail came under further critique from the political sphere.

Former President Donald Trump voiced his opinion on the matter in January, indicating a preference for self-funded security by those who have prospered financially. "They all made a lot of money. They can hire their security, too," Trump remarked, signaling his decision to end funding for Fauci's protective measures.

In essence, the growth of Dr. Fauci's wealth encapsulates a post-retirement year filled with high-profile engagements and notable financial dealings—a stark contrast to his decades-long role as a public servant in health leadership. This shift has attracted a significant degree of scrutiny and public debate about the use and allocation of taxpayer funds, as well as the financial activities of public figures after their tenures in office.
