ABC Host Credits Trump With Impact On Israel-Hamas Cease-Fire

 January 16, 2025

A pivotal ceasefire agreement has been achieved between Israel and Hamas.

Israel and Hamas have finalized a cease-fire, which also includes the release of hostages after eight months of discussions, Fox News reported.

The delicate negotiations, led by outgoing President Joseph Biden's administration, culminated in a deal announced on Wednesday. President Biden communicated the success of these efforts from the Oval Office, highlighting the administration's dedication to diplomacy.

Martha Raddatz Discusses Presidential Impact on 'The View'

ABC News host Martha Raddatz emphasized President-elect Donald Trump's role during an appearance on "The View." She pointed out the dual influence of both the Biden and Trump administrations. Raddatz noted that Trump made strong statements about the consequences if the agreement was not reached before his inauguration.

The significant discussions involved not only the cessation of hostilities and the safe return of hostages but also provisions for humanitarian aid reaching the area. These negotiations also aimed to lay the groundwork for a more lasting peace agreement.

Netanyahu Holds Off on Cabinet Vote

While preparations for the ceasefire's implementation were underway, new developments arose. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was compelled to delay a Cabinet vote concerning the ceasefire due to fresh demands from Hamas, complicating the resolution process.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken expressed optimism about the forthcoming ceasefire's effect, forecasting its commencement on the following Sunday. His remarks underscored the role of American leadership and diplomacy in reaching this outcome.

Insights Into the Ceasefire's Complex Negotiations

Martha Raddatz, reflecting on those involved, emphasized the significant albeit varied contributions of both administrations to the peace efforts.

Martha Raddatz remarked, "Well, there are certainly hostage families on the street in Tel Aviv who say it is Donald Trump who helped get this over the line, and they have been working hand in glove. You have to give the Biden administration props for everything they’ve done so far,". "But you heard President-elect Trump say there would be hell to pay if the hostages were not released, if there was not a cease-fire agreement before he took office. And that seems to have resonated over there. Whether it really put Hamas over the line, we don’t know about that, but it did have some effect. And having those two administrations work together really did seem to make a difference."

Trump highlighted prior statements regarding potential repercussions for failure to reach an agreement through interactions his Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff, had with Netanyahu, which commentators saw as crucial.

Trump and Biden's Roles Acknowledged in Complex Diplomatic Effort

Biden expressed that American leadership played an instrumental role in these discussions during his address to the nation. He outlined the extensive efforts American diplomats had undertaken over the previous months under his direction, revealing the depth of planning involved.

As Biden shared, he detailed these efforts extensively as early as May of the year, indicating the administration's longstanding commitment to resolving the conflict.

Looking Forward After the Ceasefire Agreement

As the anticipated start date for the ceasefire approaches, there is cautious optimism. The ceasefire's success is expected to be the first step toward further diplomatic and humanitarian efforts in the region.

In the face of political transitions and ongoing regional tensions, the contributions of both Biden and the incoming Trump administration point to a complex yet cooperative push toward a crucial diplomatic outcome. An analysis of these events reveals that multifaceted negotiations and strategic pressures from multiple U.S. leaders helped pave the way for this significant international agreement.
