Amy Schumer and chef Chris Fischer have finalized their divorce in New York, closing a seven-year marriage nearly 10 months after the comedian announced their split on Instagram.
Page Six reported the couple settled the case in New York Supreme Court, where the matter was listed as disposed. Divorce cases are sealed in the state, so the precise finalization date is not public.
Schumer, 45, filed in January, roughly a month after she confirmed the separation online. The pair had submitted a proposed divorce judgment and orders covering support for their son, Gene. On Sept. 25, Page Six first reported they were nearing the end of the process.
They married in 2018 and welcomed Gene in 2019. He is now 7. Fischer, 46, is a chef; Schumer is known for stand-up and films including “Trainwreck” and “I Feel Pretty.”
In a December 2025 Instagram post, Schumer made the split plain and asked for space while stressing co-parenting. Breitbart carried her announcement as the news first spread.
"Blah blah blah Chris and I have made the difficult decision to end our marriage after 7 years. We love each other very much and will continue to focus on raising our son. We would appreciate people respecting our privacy at this time."
She followed up by batting down gossip that weight loss or other personal changes drove the break. Fox News highlighted that denial alongside the amicable framing.
"Blah blah blah not because I dropped some lbs and thought I could bag a basket and not because he’s a hot Janlmes beard award winning chef who can still pull some hot tail. Amicable and all love and respect! Family forever."
In an earlier December post she had already drawn a hard line: “Whatever ends up happening with me and Chris has nothing to do with weight loss or autism.”
Celebrity marriages ending after years in the public eye are hardly rare, a pattern also seen when Amanda Seyfried and Thomas Sadoski divorced after nine years.
Years before the filing, Fischer gave Schumer a 40th birthday cake in 2021 with a message that read, “I’m leaving you. This was the only way I could think to do it.” The gag resurfaced as fans rewound the relationship timeline.
At the time of the separation, an unnamed source told the Daily Mail the split had been “a long time coming,” pointing to career demands and motherhood. “With those career goals and her being a mother, she didn’t focus much on her marriage to make that succeed,” the source said. “She’s realized you can’t have everything and the thing that suffered most was her marriage. Now she is trying to figure it all out one day at a time.”
Public figures often learn the same hard math when home life collides with a relentless schedule, much as Lori Loughlin’s long marriage ended in a divorce filing after decades in the spotlight.
The New York filing itself stayed light on drama in the public record. Support orders for Gene were submitted with the proposed judgment. No open courtroom fight landed in the coverage, and the sealed file leaves the final terms private.
Other high-profile cases show how quickly private strain can turn public and messy, including when the Brittney Griner divorce turned contentious over financial support.
Even political households have faced sudden filings after personal turmoil, as when Kristi Noem moved to end her marriage amid damaging personal revelations.
Schumer initiated the case in January after seven years of marriage. By late September the sides had paper on file for a judgment and for child support. Page Six later described the matter as disposed, the court’s way of saying the case was closed.
Because New York seals these files, outsiders do not get the decree date, the docket number, or the dollar figures. The public record stops at the settlement and the disposed tag.
Schumer’s own posts set the tone she wanted: love, respect, privacy, and a shared focus on their son. The anonymous career-and-motherhood claim sits beside that message without a response from either spouse in the available reporting.
For a couple that kept the wedding quiet in 2018, the ending followed a familiar Hollywood arc, announcement, filing, negotiated judgment, then a sealed close. Gene remains the one name both parents put first in public.
When the cameras pull away, the work of raising a child does not. Priorities that slipped during the climb still come due at home.
