A 22-year-old Brazilian beauty queen and young mother died after lightning struck her in her mother’s garden during a calm drizzle, leaving her family and community stunned by the sudden loss.

NY Post reporting describes how Ana Beatriz Araújo Ferreira, known as “Aninha,” was hit by a lightning bolt on Saturday while outdoors on her mother’s property in Brazil.

She had just finished bathing her 5-year-old son, Luiz Henrique, and was combing her niece’s hair in an outdoor bathtub area when the strike came in a split second.

Family members rushed her to a nearby hospital in Almas. She succumbed to her injuries there.

Her sister, Lana Letícia, described the moment plainly.

"She was combing my niece’s hair when the bolt hit,"

Brother César Augusto told CNN Brazil the weather did not look extreme. “The day was cloudy with a very calm drizzle,” he said.

She left a young son and a fresh rodeo crown

Ferreira was a student at Unopar University, studying physiotherapy while raising her boy. She had recently been crowned Queen of the Rodeo at ExpoAlmas, the annual agriculture and livestock fair in central Brazil.

Organizers there issued a mourning statement after her death. “Her passing leaves a huge void among family, friends, and the entire community that had the privilege of knowing her,” they said.

They added they stood “in solidarity with [her] family and friends, wishing them strength and comfort to face [this] irreparable loss.”

Lightning can turn deadly with little warning, a reality also seen in a fatal lightning strike at an Ohio prison during a sudden storm.

Augusto later posted a tribute on Instagram remembering his sister’s short life. “Aninha is and was one of the most beautiful people I’ve ever known,” he wrote.

He said she died “doing what she loved most, showing love through something simple.”

"Thank you for those 22 years of us. For having existed. For teaching us so much in such a short time. You aren’t truly gone. You live on in your son, in our story, and in a love that will never end."

Other storm disasters have shown the same hard truth about open ground and active weather, including a separate Ohio prison lightning incident that sent more than a dozen people to hospitals.

Ferreira was a young mother, a student, and a freshly crowned rodeo queen when a routine family moment outdoors ended without warning.

Nature does not check résumés or crowns. Hold your people close while you can.
