Incident on I-17 Leaves ICE Officer and Migrant Injured

 November 1, 2025, NEWS

Brace yourself for a tense early-morning clash in Phoenix, Arizona, that left both an ICE officer and an unauthorized migrant nursing wounds, as Breitbart reports.

On Wednesday, November 1, 2025, a routine traffic stop turned into a dangerous confrontation on I-17 around 4 a.m., resulting in injuries to both an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer and a Honduran national named Jose Garcia-Sorto.

ICE officers pulled over Garcia-Sorto while he was driving along the highway in the pre-dawn hours.

Traffic Stop Turns Violent in Phoenix

At first, Garcia-Sorto complied by stopping his vehicle, giving the impression of a standard interaction.

But as officers approached, he allegedly hit the gas, speeding off in a reckless move that put lives at risk.

An officer, positioned directly in front of the vehicle, found himself in the path of danger as the car surged forward.

Officer Fires in Self-Defense on I-17

Fearing for his life, the officer discharged his service weapon twice, striking Garcia-Sorto’s vehicle in a desperate bid to stop the threat.

As ICE described the chaotic moment, “As the vehicle abruptly began speeding away, an officer was in the path of the vehicle. Fearing for his life, the officer defensively discharged his service weapon two times, striking Garcia-Sorto’s vehicle.”

While the officer’s quick thinking may have saved his own skin, let’s not pretend this split-second decision was anything but a tragedy waiting to unfold when enforcement meets desperation.

Both Parties Hospitalized After Shooting Incident

The outcome was grim—Garcia-Sorto, wounded in the exchange, was rushed to a hospital for treatment.

The ICE officer didn’t escape unscathed either, sustaining injuries that also required hospitalization.

It’s a stark reminder that these encounters, often fueled by complex immigration policies, rarely end with a neat resolution for anyone involved.

Family Speaks on Immigration Status

Adding another layer to this messy situation, Garcia-Sorto’s wife openly admitted that both she and her husband are in the country without authorization.

Her words carry a weight of resignation and faith, as she stated, “What they’re doing is bad, but I don’t wish anything bad towards them, because I am not God to judge them. I pray for them.”

While her compassion is admirable, it doesn’t erase the reality that skirting immigration laws often leads to high-stakes confrontations—perhaps a sign that our border policies need a harder look, not more progressive platitudes.
