Pictures of a grease truck driver’s gruesome facial injury have surfaced, revealing the brutal aftermath of an early Saturday morning altercation with former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez in downtown Indianapolis.
As reported by Daily Mail, the victim, identified only as PT in court documents, suffered a deep laceration through his cheek that reached his tongue during a heated confrontation with Sanchez.
The incident, which left both men seriously injured, has led to upgraded charges against Sanchez, now facing a Level 5 felony for battery causing serious bodily injury, with a potential sentence of up to six years if convicted.
Early Saturday, PT was collecting kitchen grease from restaurants near Loughmiller's Pub & Eatery when Sanchez allegedly took issue with the truck’s position in a loading dock.
The situation spiraled as Sanchez reportedly harassed PT, entered his vehicle without permission, and threatened him, prompting PT to defend himself with pepper spray.
Undeterred, Sanchez allegedly threw PT against a dumpster, an act captured on surveillance footage, intensifying the clash into a violent struggle.
Fearing for his life, PT pulled out a knife and stabbed Sanchez multiple times in the chest, later telling police he believed “this guy is trying to kill me.”
Sanchez, covered in blood, was rushed to a hospital with serious injuries but was later released, while PT lay in a hospital bed with a gash across his face and a neck brace.
While PT’s family told The New York Post he’s doing “OK” despite the shock, one has to wonder if wielding a blade was the only option in a scuffle that started over a parking spot.
Sanchez was arrested Sunday on initial charges of battery with injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle, and public intoxication, but Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears upped the stakes Monday with the felony charge.
Mears stated at a press briefing, “With that additional information, we have added more serious charges against Mr. Sanchez,” emphasizing that the investigation is far from over, with outstanding search warrants still in play.
Yet, a local bartender, Scott Bennett, who aided Sanchez after the incident, told WXIN he saw no signs of intoxication, contradicting PT’s claim that Sanchez smelled of alcohol and slurred his speech.
Sanchez, once a quarterback for the New York Jets and now a Fox TV analyst, was in Indianapolis to cover the Colts’ game against the Las Vegas Raiders but was replaced by Brady Quinn after his hospitalization and arrest.
With a $300 cash bond posted and a no-contact order in place, he’s set for an initial court hearing Tuesday morning, though he reportedly recalls little of the night beyond “grabbing for a window.”
