Tragic Shootings Claim Three Lives in Kentucky at Church and Airport

 July 13, 2025, NEWS

A horrifying wave of violence struck Lexington, Kentucky, on Sunday, as a gunman shattered the peace of a quiet community with deadly consequences.

On that tragic day, the gunman killed two people and died himself in shootings at Blue Grass Airport and Richmond Road Baptist Church, injuring a trooper and leaving a grieving congregation behind, NBC News reported.

The chaos began at 11:36 a.m. when a Kentucky State Police trooper pulled over the suspect on a terminal road at Blue Grass Airport after a license plate reader issued an alert. What should have been a routine stop turned deadly when the suspect shot the trooper and sped away.

Violence Erupts at Blue Grass Airport

First responders quickly stabilized the injured trooper and transported him for treatment—a small mercy in an otherwise grim situation. The Lexington Fire Department arrived within minutes and rushed the trooper to the hospital with serious injuries. While the attacker didn’t target the airport itself, authorities briefly closed a roadway and terminal as a precaution before reopening them.

Let’s be clear: law enforcement faces risks every day that most of us can’t fathom, and this incident is a stark reminder of that reality. As State Attorney General Russell Coleman noted, “This is another reminder of the grave danger we ask law enforcement to face every single day.” It’s a sobering truth in a culture that often seems more obsessed with defunding than defending those who protect us.

After fleeing the airport, the gunman resurfaced about 16 miles southeast at Richmond Road Baptist Church, a place of worship for a close-knit group of believers. There, the violence escalated as the suspect opened fire, striking at least four people in a senseless act of brutality.

Tragedy Strikes a Tight-Knit Church

Fayette County Coroner Gary Ginn identified the two women who died at the scene as Beverly Gumm, 72, and Christina Combs, 32. First responders tragically pronounced both women dead at the scene. Medical teams have stabilized one of the two male victims, while the other remains in critical condition. The heartbreak of losing lives in a sacred space is almost unimaginable.

Lexington Police Chief Lawrence Weathers stated, “Four individuals were shot on church property.” That’s a cold, hard fact—but it doesn’t reflect the shattered lives behind those numbers, something the progressive agenda often overlooks while pushing anti-gun rhetoric without addressing the root causes of such evil.

Officers confronted the gunman at the church, and in the ensuing exchange, they fatally shot the suspect, ending the rampage. While the identity of the shooter is known to authorities, it hasn’t been released pending family notification, a respectful gesture in a situation dripping with tragedy.

Questions Linger Over Shooter’s Motive

Chief Weathers hinted at a possible link, saying the suspect “may have had a connection” to church victims. That vague tease raises more questions than answers, but it’s a thread worth pulling in a society too quick to blame tools over twisted minds. We need facts, not feelings, to understand what drove this horror.

Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear took to social media, urging, “Please pray for everyone affected by these senseless acts of violence.” It’s a call to faith that resonates in a state where community and prayer still mean something, unlike the secular drumbeat of coastal elites who’d rather lecture than listen.

Gov. Beshear also noted, “Details are still emerging, and we will share more information as available.” That’s a promise of transparency we should hold him to, especially when trust in institutions is at an all-time low thanks to years of overreach and woke posturing.

Community and Law Enforcement Respond

State troopers, the FBI, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives have joined Lexington detectives to piece together this grim puzzle. Their swift action likely saved more lives—a fact Gov. Beshear acknowledged as he thanked local and state police for their rapid response. For once, leaders and agencies stood united in a country often split by ideology.

Authorities have not disclosed a motive, leaving the community struggling to understand the “why” behind such carnage. In a culture where politicians often sideline mental health in favor of scoring points, we must finally confront the human failures that lead to these tragedies instead of reflexively blaming law-abiding citizens.

As Lexington grieves, its people—especially the tight-knit worshippers of Richmond Road Baptist Church—now face a test of resilience. But if history has shown us anything, it’s that faith and community can prevail, even in the darkest moments, no matter how loudly the modern narrative tries to weaken those foundations. Let’s hope this moment brings healing, clarity, and a renewed focus on what truly keeps us safe.
