Former Vikings Star Criticizes Gov. Walz After Lawmaker Shootings

Tragedy struck Minnesota with a chilling wave of violence as state lawmakers became targets in early-morning shootings that have left the state reeling.

According to the New York Post, Two separate attacks claimed the lives of former Democratic House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband, while seriously injuring Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, prompting sharp criticism of Gov. Tim Walz from a former Minnesota Vikings player for the state’s descent into disorder.

The horror unfolded in the early hours when gunshots shattered the calm at the home of Melissa Hortman, a respected former speaker of the Minnesota House. Both she and her husband were tragically killed in the assault.

Violence Targets Minnesota Lawmakers’ Homes

Not long after, a second attack targeted Sen. John Hoffman at his Champlin residence. He and his wife sustained serious injuries in a brazen assault that has shaken the political community to its core.

Authorities have identified Vance Luther Boelter, a 57-year-old man, as the suspect wanted in connection with these brutal shootings. Reports indicate Boelter allegedly impersonated a police officer during the attack on Hoffman and his wife, adding a sinister layer of deception to the violence.

Boelter, who holds a Ph.D. in leadership from Cardinal Stritch University, is no stranger to state appointments. He was first named to the Minnesota Workforce Development Board in 2016 by then-Gov. Mark Dayton and reappointed by Gov. Tim Walz in 2019, serving until 2023.

Gov. Walz Faces Backlash Over Chaos

Gov. Walz has publicly condemned the shootings as a “politically motivated assassination,” a stark acknowledgment of the dangerous climate gripping Minnesota. Yet, curiously, he omitted any mention of Boelter’s past appointment under his administration during his statement to the press.

Walz’s office has remained silent on inquiries from media outlets seeking further comment. This lack of transparency only fuels questions about accountability at the highest levels of state leadership.

Enter Jack Brewer, a former Minnesota Vikings and University of Minnesota Golden Gophers football player, who didn’t hold back in his scathing critique of Walz. “Minnesota has become the capital of chaos in America,” Brewer told Fox News Digital, pinning the blame squarely on the governor’s policies.

Brewer Laments State’s Cultural Decline

Brewer, who spent years living in Minnesota and still has family there, painted a grim picture of a state transformed for the worse. “It was not like this. People were respectful,” he lamented, contrasting past civility with today’s toxic divisions.

“Tim Walz is the example of a weak, emasculated leader,” Brewer added, striking at what he sees as a failure to protect families and uphold traditional values. His words cut deep, reflecting a frustration many feel about leadership that seems out of touch with core principles.

Brewer didn’t stop there, pointing to a broader cultural rot fueled by progressive agendas. “The Democrats have gone so far left that if you’re not a raging liberal, you’re under attack,” he argued, suggesting a stifling conformity within the party.

Call for Restoring Minnesota’s Values

The former athlete’s critique extended to a plea for renewal, urging a return to foundational values. “On this Father’s Day, I wish Minnesota would focus on restoring fatherhood — protecting women, protecting families,” Brewer said, offering a vision starkly at odds with current state policies.

These shootings, labeled as politically driven by Walz himself, raise alarming questions about the safety of public officials and the state of discourse in Minnesota. Brewer’s assertion that “whenever you give Satan power, he shows his face” may sound dramatic, but it captures a visceral fear of unchecked ideological extremism.

As the manhunt for Boelter continues, Minnesota stands at a crossroads, grappling with grief and outrage over these heinous acts. The criticism from voices like Brewer underscores a deeper discontent with leadership that many feel prioritizes progressive ideals over security and unity. It’s a wake-up call—will the state heed it before more lives are lost?
