Rod Stewart pulls Vegas shows as flu lingers

Rod Stewart has hit pause on more than one show in his Las Vegas residency, and this time, doctor’s orders are on the marquee.

According to Fox News, the 80-year-old rocker canceled two performances in the same week at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, citing illness from a stubborn flu and professional medical advice as the reason.

The cancellations remind fans and fellow performers alike that even icons have limits, especially when stubbornly battling through illness for the sake of showbiz tradition.

Veteran Singer Halts Shows Following Medical Advice

Stewart, who recently canceled his June 5 concert, addressed fans directly, apologizing and stating his physician had advised additional rest. While no one is invincible, some still try to be, it seems.

Earlier in the same week, the singer had also canceled another concert, offering a more upbeat note by confirming that the missed show would be rescheduled to June 10. Tickets were confirmed as still valid, which at least softened the blow for loyal attendees.

The canceled performances are part of the continuation of Stewart’s long-running Las Vegas residency—a series that has marked his place among music’s enduring showmen. But biology doesn’t give standing ovations just because you’re a legend.

Past Illnesses Already Caused Show Delays

Longtime fans may recall that last August, Stewart postponed a couple of shows as well. That move came immediately after he called off his milestone 200th concert in Vegas, also due to illness.

The trend suggests the stage may soon see fewer struts from the silky-voiced performer. Though still spry, back-to-back health setbacks highlight the unavoidable truth that time marches on—even for rock royalty.

Despite the interruptions, Stewart has been clear that he isn’t waving goodbye to music altogether. If anything, he’s redefining the rhythm of his career before it’s dictated for him.

No Retirement, Just a Slower, Smaller Stage

In a statement shared previously, Stewart confirmed this is the end of globe-trotting mega tours. But don’t mistake that for surrender: the man still has energy, ambition, and unmistakable hair.

“I have no desire to retire,” he told fans, cementing his intent to stick around, albeit on smaller stages and with different artistic pursuits. It’s a pivot, not an exit.

Plans are in place for more intimate performances down the line, including a focus on the Great American Songbook and a Swing Fever tour. Whether or not this materializes, the intent is clear—less arena flash, more musical substance.

A Pulled Curtain, But Not the Final Act

Fans who hoped for one more blast of Vegas glitz may need to adjust their expectations. Stewart’s shift to select performances over mass touring reflects a broader truth: sometimes cutting scale is the only way to keep the song going.

To his credit, the singer keeps things humorous and humble. In a previous message, he noted that he’s still fit, still fast on his feet, and blessed with a full head of hair—a subtle jab at ageism, without any of the cultural handwringing.

And while flu bugs and travel fatigue might complicate logistics, Stewart’s devotion to the music remains the one thing untouched. Even a pause in the residency doesn't change the melody of a life still lived on his terms.
