Actor Halle Bailey seeks protection from rapper DDG amid domestic violence claims

"The Little Mermaid" star Halle Bailey has taken legal action against her ex-boyfriend, rapper DDG, following a series of alleged violent incidents involving their young child.

According to Breitbart, a Los Angeles judge granted Bailey a temporary restraining order against DDG, whose legal name is Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr., requiring him to maintain distance from both Bailey and their 17-month-old son Halo until a scheduled hearing on June 6.

The 25-year-old actor and singer detailed multiple instances of physical altercations and threatening behavior in her court filing. She described their relationship, which lasted from 2022 until last year, as marked by persistent physical, verbal, emotional, and financial abuse.

Violent January confrontation leads to injuries

A particularly severe incident occurred in January when Granberry allegedly became aggressive while Bailey was attempting to secure their baby in his car. The situation escalated into a physical altercation that left Bailey injured.

Bailey provided photographic evidence of her injuries, including a chipped tooth and bruises on her arms, to support her claims. The documentation strengthens her case for continued legal protection.

The court filing reveals that during the confrontation, Granberry repeatedly used derogatory language before the situation turned physical. Bailey shared:

Throughout our relationship, Daryl has been and continues to be physically, verbally, emotionally, and financially abusive towards me. I am seeking orders to protect myself and our son Halo from his ongoing abuse.

Social media harassment and property damage

In March, the situation deteriorated further when Granberry allegedly entered Bailey's residence without permission. He then sent her threatening messages suggesting infidelity, demonstrating escalating controlling behavior.

The rapper, known for his success as a video streamer and hip-hop artist, has allegedly used his substantial social media following to harass Bailey. She claims he regularly disparages her to his millions of fans, leading to threats and online harassment.

During another confrontation, Granberry reportedly destroyed Bailey's Ring camera when he realized it was recording their interaction. The incident also involved him taking her phone and allegedly closing a car door on her while she held their child.

Legal protection and career implications

The temporary restraining order prohibits Granberry from possessing weapons and requires him to cease using his streaming platforms to incite harassment against Bailey. The judge will consider extending these protections for up to five years at the upcoming hearing.

DDG, who recently released his fourth studio album "Blame the Chat" on Epic Records, has not publicly responded to the allegations. His representatives have not issued any statements regarding the court order. Bailey, a five-time Grammy nominee known for her work with sister duo Chloe x Halle and her starring role in Disney's live-action "The Little Mermaid," continues to maintain her professional commitments while seeking legal protection.

Current status and next steps

The domestic violence case involving Halle Bailey and rapper DDG has resulted in a temporary restraining order protecting both the actor and her 17-month-old son Halo. The court's decision came after Bailey provided detailed documentation of alleged physical abuse, including photographic evidence of injuries sustained during confrontations with her ex-boyfriend.

The case will proceed to a hearing on June 6, where a judge will determine whether to extend the protective order for up to five years. Until then, DDG must maintain his distance from Bailey and their child, refrain from possessing weapons, and cease using his social media platforms to harass the actor.
