A Georgia teenager's dying wish to meet President Donald Trump at the White House has ended in heartbreak.
According to Daily Mail, 17-year-old Justin Hylton passed away from a germ cell tumor before he could fulfill his dream of visiting the White House and meeting Trump, who had personally invited the teen last October.
Justin was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer in July when doctors discovered a tumor that had spread to his left lung. The medical team gave him a 50% chance of survival as the massive growth had displaced his esophagus and heart while also collapsing his lung and threatening his airway.
President Trump responded to Justin's Make-a-Wish Foundation request with a heartfelt video message last October. The president promised to host Justin at the White House once he completed his cancer treatments, planning to discuss American history and share lunch together.
Trump expressed enthusiasm about the planned visit in his response video, telling Justin they would spend quality time together exploring White House history. The president also encouraged the teen to focus on getting better quickly so they could make the special meeting happen.
The invitation brought immense joy to Justin, who had specifically requested through the Make-a-Wish Foundation to "chill in the White House" with Trump after completing his treatments.
Amanda Hylton, Justin's mother, announced her son's passing in a TikTok video while also extending an invitation to Trump. She shared her family's devastation over Justin missing out on his White House visit.
Trump has made words to Justin:
When you're better, which will be very soon, you're going to come to the White House and I'm going to be with you and we're going to spend a lot of time together. It's going to be something special, so get better quickly because I really want to spend some time with you.
Amanda addressed Trump directly in her announcement video, requesting his presence at Justin's funeral. She emphasized how meaningful it would be for her son to meet the president, even if posthumously.
The rare cancer that claimed Justin's life develops from reproductive cells that form in the womb. These tumors account for over 90% of testicular cancers in men and approximately 25% of ovarian cancers in women.
Medical experts estimate that germ cell cancers affect about 10,000 boys and men annually, with 600 fatalities. The main symptoms include painless swelling or lumps in the testicles, accompanied by feelings of heaviness in the scrotum and dull aches in the lower abdomen.
Justin spent his final month on a ventilator before succumbing to the disease on May 10. His mother expressed profound gratitude for having been Justin's parent, stating she "wouldn't change it for the world."
