A tense custody battle and allegations of abuse emerge between actor-singer Halle Bailey and rapper DDG, involving their 17-month-old son Halo.
According to Breitbart, a Los Angeles judge granted Bailey's request for a restraining order against her ex-boyfriend DDG, whose legal name is Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr., following multiple accusations of physical and emotional abuse.
The 25-year-old star of Disney's "The Little Mermaid" detailed several violent encounters with Granberry, 27, in her court filing. Their relationship, which began in 2022, deteriorated after their breakup last year, leading to what Bailey describes as escalating incidents of violence and harassment.
Disturbing January confrontation leads to physical altercation
Bailey's court documents reveal a particularly violent incident in January when Granberry repeatedly called her derogatory names while she attempted to secure their baby in his car. The situation quickly escalated into a physical altercation, resulting in Bailey suffering a chipped tooth and multiple bruises.
The five-time Grammy nominee included photographic evidence of her injuries in the court filing, showing bruises on her arms and the damage to her tooth. These images supported her claims of the severity of the confrontation.
The incident marked a significant turning point in their already strained relationship, prompting Bailey to seek legal protection for herself and their child.
Social media harassment and property damage allegations
Bailey accused Granberry of using his substantial social media following to harass and intimidate her. The rapper, who boasts millions of followers across various platforms, allegedly weaponized his audience against her through his Twitch and YouTube channels.
In March, Granberry allegedly entered Bailey's residence without permission and sent threatening messages suggesting infidelity. During another confrontation, he reportedly destroyed her Ring camera when he realized it was recording their interaction.
The situation further deteriorated when Granberry allegedly took Bailey's phone and slammed his car door on her while she was holding their baby, prompting her to file a police report.
Legal proceedings and temporary protection measures
The temporary restraining order, issued on Tuesday, requires Granberry to maintain distance from both Bailey and their son until a June 6 hearing. The court also prohibited him from possessing weapons during this period.
The judge will determine whether to extend the protective order for up to five years at the upcoming hearing. Representatives for Granberry have not responded to requests for comment regarding the allegations.
Moving forward amid ongoing safety concerns
The case between Halle Bailey and DDG highlights the intersection of domestic violence, social media influence, and celebrity relationships. Bailey, known for her breakthrough role in Disney's live-action adaptation of "The Little Mermaid" and her music career with sister duo Chloe x Halle, seeks protection from what she describes as ongoing physical, verbal, emotional, and financial abuse.
The temporary restraining order currently provides immediate protection for Bailey and her son, while the June 6 hearing will determine long-term safety measures. This legal action comes as both artists continue their respective careers, with DDG recently releasing his fourth studio album, "Blame the Chat," on Epic Records.
