Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has incurred a significant financial penalty for misconduct.
According to Fox News, Fani Willis was mandated by a court to pay $54,264 due to violations made in handling records requests during the investigation of former President Donald Trump.
Superior Court Judge Rachel Krause handed down this ruling, determining that Willis deliberately withheld essential documents.
The court's decision concerns the non-disclosure of documents linked to Nathan Wade, a key figure in the Trump investigation.
The court implicated Wade in financial gains from his appointment after discovering his intimate relationship with Willis and subsequently removing him from the case.
The court scrutinized how the office handled public records, focusing particularly on Dexter Bond's actions as the custodian for Open Records. Witnesses described Bond as hostile toward Ashleigh Merchant, the attorney who pushed for Willis' disqualification.
Rachel Krause noted in her ruling that Dexter Bond treated Ashleigh Merchant's inquiries with outright hostility. This differentiated handling of her requests pointed to a biased approach not observed with other submissions.
The court highlighted Bond's intentional refusal to communicate via phone as indicative of bad faith, although not legally obligatory.

"Defendants — through the Open Records custodian, Dexter Bond — were openly hostile to counsel for Plaintiff, Ms. Merchant, and testified that Ms. Merchant's requests were handled differently than other requests."
While there is no requirement under the ORA for Mr. Bond to call any requestor about a particular request, Mr. Bond's handling of Ms. Merchant's requests in this manner indicates a lack of good faith. Defendants’ failures were intentional, not done in good faith, and were substantially groundless and vexatious.
The legal outcome extended beyond the penalty, as Willis was also disqualified from continuing in the Trump prosecution effort by the Georgia Appeals Court.
