The Federal Aviation Administration's new safety requirements, imposed after January's tragic collision between an Army Black Hawk helicopter and an American Airlines jet that claimed 67 lives, mandate increased runway closures whenever the presidential helicopter operates in the vicinity. These measures have forced commercial aircraft to spend extended periods circling above the airport, with numerous flights being diverted to alternative airports in the region.
The Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy and FAA officials implemented the enhanced safety protocols earlier this year following the devastating January crash.
