CBS Called Out for Editing Bias

 February 7, 2025, NEWS

CBS News is facing criticism over claims of biased editing in its "60 Minutes" segments, igniting calls for change at the network.

The New York Post's editorial board has urged CBS News to sever ties with Bill Owens, executive producer of "60 Minutes," following allegations of biased and deceptive editing affecting Vice President Kamala Harris and the Israel-Hamas conflict that have sparked widespread disapproval, Fox News reported.

The New York Post editorial board criticized CBS News for bias, calling for the removal of 60 Minutes executive producer Bill Owens. The controversy stemmed from the selective editing of a Kamala Harris interview, which FCC Chairman Brendan Carr condemned for omitting key responses about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Trump Seeks $10 Billion in Lawsuit

In October, Trump filed a $10 billion lawsuit against CBS News, accusing it of election interference through deceptive editing of the Harris interview. The New York Post claimed CBS distorted the portrayal of a political figure to favor a candidate.

CBS has not responded to the allegations despite multiple requests. The New York Post also criticized a 60 Minutes segment on the Gaza war, alleging bias against Israel, a concern echoed by the American Jewish Committee.

American Jewish Committee Criticizes Coverage

The American Jewish Committee criticized the segment for downplaying Hamas's role in the conflict and misrepresenting its actions. They condemned the piece for labeling Hamas fighters as "militants" instead of terrorists and questioned its framing.

The AJC elaborated, "This segment, the latest example of major news outlets recklessly reporting on Israel's defensive war against Hamas, was shockingly one-sided, lacked factual accuracy, and relied heavily on misguided information."

The editorial board called attention to these issues as part of the broader concern over media integrity. The board asserted, "Owens also oversaw a badly biased ‘60 Minutes’ report on the Gaza war that not only advanced the lie that Israel was blocking aid, but withheld the extremist affiliations of the advocates it showed claiming Washington was ‘complicit.’"

Restoring Public Trust at CBS News

The editorial board urged CBS to remove Bill Owens to preserve media credibility, arguing that eliminating perceived partisans is key to regaining public trust.

However, they acknowledged that this move alone wouldn't restore CBS News’ reputation amid widespread distrust in mainstream media.

With CBS’s parent company exploring a merger with Skydance Media, the editorial stressed that internal content concerns should take precedence. This stance has fueled discussions on media responsibility in an era of declining public confidence.

Criticism from the New York Post and AJC highlights growing demands to address perceived partisan news coverage. The push for transparency and accuracy reflects broader concerns about media bias and its impact on public trust.

CBS News now faces scrutiny over its handling of bias allegations and editorial conduct. From political interviews to international coverage, debates over journalistic neutrality and integrity persist.

The New York Post concluded that regaining public trust requires more than personnel changes—it demands systemic reforms. Still, they insisted that removing partisan figures is a necessary first step in restoring CBS’s credibility.
