Pam Bondi assumed her role as the U.S. Attorney General yesterday.
Pam Bondi swiftly introduced significant directives, reshaping the approach of the Justice Department to prioritize aggressive law enforcement, Fox News reported.
The Senate approved Bondi on Tuesday, and she took the oath of office the following day. She immediately set a bold agenda, introducing several initiatives to enforce the death penalty, intensify the fight against cartels, and scrutinize the alleged politicization within the Justice Department.
Her "Weaponization Working Group" will investigate potential politicized justice in recent affairs, critically examining the treatments of former President Donald Trump by Jack Smith, Alvin Bragg, and Letitia James. Additionally, it will probe into prosecutor conduct regarding the January 6, 2021, incidents, the targeting of Catholic Americans, disruptions at school board meetings, and the application of the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act.
Bondi terminated the moratorium on federal executions previously set by the Biden administration. She's directing federal prosecutors to aggressively seek the death penalty, especially in severe drug trafficking cases.
Enhancing measures against criminal cartels, she emphasized redefining charging priorities and expediting legal proceedings. Her instructions are clear: pause bureaucratic delays to speed up prosecutions of paramount crimes, including terrorism and assisting cartel activities.
Bondi plans to reinforce the fight against the Tren de Aragua gang and elevate the role of Joint Task Forces in tackling gangs and human trafficking issues. She has also announced the formation of a new Joint Task Force to hold Hamas accountable following their 2023 attacks and address growing concerns over antisemitism, appointing experienced terrorism investigators from the FBI to lead the effort.
Moreover, the DOJ under Bondi will halt federal funding to sanctuary cities and scrutinize funding agreements with NGOs that support illegal migrants.
Bondi’s fresh guidelines mandate the cessation of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs within the DOJ and insist on enforcing merit-based hiring and training practices by mid-March.
Pam Bondi discussed the importance of steering clear of politicization in the Department of Justice:
The discretion afforded Justice Department attorneys with respect to those responsibilities does not include latitude to substitute their personal political views or judgments for those that prevailed in the election. Any Justice Department attorney who declines to sign a brief, refuses to advance good-faith arguments on behalf of the Trump administration, or otherwise delays or impedes the Justice Department’s mission will be subject to discipline and potentially termination.
In line with her promise to ensure a non-partisan approach, Bondi emphasized: “Politics has to be taken out of this system. Partisanship, the weaponization at the Justice Department will be gone.”
She further stated, “America will have one tier of justice for all,” highlighting her commitment to uphold impartiality across all levels of justice administration.
