Marianne Faithfull, the emblematic voice of the Swinging Sixties and acclaimed actress, has died.
Marianne Faithfull peacefully passed away surrounded by her family in London at the age of 78, following a prolonged illness, The Telegraph reported.
Born in 1946 in Hampstead, London, to a British intelligence officer and an Austro-Hungarian Jewish baroness, Marianne Faithfull soared to fame with her distinct voice. Her association with the Rolling Stones, where she became both muse and collaborator, defined an era of music.
Her career was marked by notable highs, such as her first hit "As Tears Go By" in 1964. After overcoming personal hardships including a battle with heroin addiction, Faithfull made a striking comeback with the 1979 album "Broken English".
In addition to her music, Faithfull's acting career spanned several critically acclaimed roles in films. Despite facing numerous health challenges including breast cancer in 2006 and later complications from COVID, her artistic output continued, with her latest album "She Walks In Beauty" released in 2021.
