A nationwide law enforcement operation targeting criminal immigrants intensifies as federal agents descend on locations across major U.S. cities.
According to the New York Post, federal agents arrested approximately 50 members of the Venezuelan prison gang Tren de Aragua during a pre-dawn raid at a makeshift nightclub in Adams County, just outside Denver city limits.
The Drug Enforcement Administration's Rocky Mountain Division intercepted an invite-only gathering where gang members had congregated. During the operation, agents seized weapons, cash, and various narcotics, including "pink cocaine," a powerful drug that the gang has been instrumental in distributing across the United States.
The Colorado raid marks a significant development in the Trump administration's renewed focus on deporting illegal immigrants with criminal backgrounds. Multiple federal agencies, including the DEA, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Homeland Security Investigations, and ICE's Enforcement and Removal Operations, participated in the coordinated effort.
DEA acting administrator Derek Maltz emphasized the administration's commitment to public safety. He stated:
We want the country to know that we will all support the president's priority to round up the most dangerous illegal criminals. The citizens of this country must feel safe every day throughout the country. One of my goals is to help build an army of good to fight evil.
The operation, dubbed "Return to Sender," has already resulted in approximately 600 arrests in sanctuary cities nationwide. Law enforcement agencies are particularly targeting individuals who have been charged with crimes or received deportation orders from judges.
Among those detained during the nationwide sweeps was Gokhan Adriguzel, a 30-year-old Turkish national identified as a "known or suspected terrorist" by ICE in New York. The White House highlighted several other significant arrests, including convicted child rapists and suspected ISIS members.
In western New York, agents apprehended a Jordanian national with suspected ISIS connections. Los Angeles ICE officials captured an MS-13 gang member from El Salvador who was wanted for aggravated homicide and had an Interpol Red Notice issued against him.
The operation has also resulted in arrests in Seattle, New Orleans, Atlanta, Boston, and Phoenix. The individuals taken into custody face charges ranging from drug trafficking and weapons possession to sexual offenses and vehicular manslaughter.
Prior to the Denver raid, Tren de Aragua had established a significant presence in Aurora, a Denver suburb of nearly 400,000 residents. The gang had reportedly taken control of entire neighborhoods and apartment complexes, creating zones of fear and intimidation.
Similar enforcement actions continue across the country, with raids occurring in New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago. The Chicago DEA shared images of their coordination with ICE and the Department of Justice as they launched targeted operations in the city.
Surveillance footage from West New York, New Jersey, showed ICE officers conducting building searches and making arrests. The operations are expected to continue seven days a week for the foreseeable future.
