ICE Detains 308, Including Serious Criminals, On Trump's Inauguration Day

 January 22, 2025

On the very first day of President Donald Trump's administration, a sweeping arrest initiative was carried out.

According to the New York Post, Federal officers from Immigration and Customs Enforcement targeted over 300 illegal migrants with criminal histories, leading raids in numerous U.S. sanctuary cities.

The operation unfolded in high-profile urban areas such as Boston, Denver, and Miami. This raid was a tactically coordinated effort spanning across cities including Philadelphia, Atlanta, Seattle, Washington, D.C., and further.

Focused Targets In Multiple U.S. Cities

Officials pinpointed sanctuary cities for these operations, enacting Trump's sterner approach to immigration law enforcement. The catches included individuals convicted of grave offenses, like attempted murder and child molestation.

Among those detained were notable figures such as Kodir Mazhidov, a citizen of Tajikistan, found in Philadelphia, and Edward Marlon Rauda-Aldanda, a registered Salvadoran sex offender, apprehended in Maryland.

Detailed raids also led to the arrests of Miguel Andres-Mateo and Victorino Gaytan-Hernandez in Georgia and Seattle, respectively. Each individual captured was characterized by a serious criminal record, signaling ICE's firm stance on prosecuting illegal residents involved in violent crimes.

Larger Deportation Strategies and Military Involvement

Simultaneously, the Trump administration has escalated its border security measures, increasing the number of troops stationed along the southern border. The government has deployed an additional 1,500 military personnel to tighten patrol operations. This increase in forces strengthens a larger strategy to expel over 700,000 migrants convicted of crimes within the U.S. Authorities carried out a substantial deportation at El Chaparral pedestrian bridge in Tijuana, Mexico, immediately following the coordinated arrests.

Tom Homan, the appointed border czar, has been vocally supportive of these intensified efforts. He stated on Fox News:

"ICE is doing their job," said Tom Homan on Fox News.

“So, they’re out there right now looking for the most serious public safety threats, and throughout the country, we’re putting them back to work,” Homan explained regarding the ICE officers' efforts.

Recent Executive Orders and Homeland Security Prioritization

Significantly, President Trump signed an executive order to reinforce homeland security as a primary mission for the Department of Defense. This move aligns with his campaign promises to prioritize American safety and strict immigration control.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt extolled the president's immediate actions and focus on homeland security. She clarified Trump's directive and the immediate ramifications of his policy decisions:

This is something President Trump campaigned on. The American people have been waiting for such a time as this, for our Department of Defense to take homeland security seriously. This is a number one priority of the American people and the president has already delivered,” Leavitt added regarding Trump's focus on homeland security. Moreover, the administration has instructed Border Patrol officers not to release detainees into U.S. territories but to confine them for prompt deportation, demonstrating a zero-tolerance approach against illegal immigration.

In conclusion, the extensive arrest of over 300 criminals marks just the beginning of President Trump's promise to overhaul the U.S. immigration system and secure its borders. This development comes amid broader measures designed to curtail the entrance and stay of illegal migrants involved in criminal activities, effectuating a significant pivot in U.S. immigration oversight under the Trump administration.
