The House has replaced Rep. Thomas Massie, positioning new members in the House Rules Committee, New York Post reported.
Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.), known for his outspoken criticism of House leadership, has lost his position on the influential House Rules Committee. This change follows his dissenting vote against the new House Speaker, Mike Johnson (R-La.), during the speaker election on January 3rd.
Previously, in December, Massie had already suggested he might step down from this committee in the new 119th Congress. Throughout the last term, Massie, alongside Reps. Ralph Norman (R-SC) and Chip Roy (R-Texas), became notable for blocking legislation they considered not conservative enough.
Speaker Mike Johnson responded to the removal by appointing Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC) as the new Chair and Rep. Morgan Griffith (R-Va.) to fill the vacated position. Griffith, a member of the Freedom Caucus, is known for his less confrontational style compared to Massie.
The House Rules Committee sets the parameters for debate and amendments on legislative motions. Johnson's appointment of Griffith aims to stabilize the committee's operations.
